Screaming Females

Headlining this triple-action show is punk rock band Screaming Females. The trio (Marissa Paternoster, Jarrett Dougherty, and King Mike) are currently touring in support of the the Steve Albini-produced live album Live …
Pujol

Opening up for J Roddy were Pujol, from Nashville, Tennessee. The five-piece band (although for live shows, they only have four members) played tracks from their sophomore album Kludge (like “No Words”) and their 2012 debut album …

Hot on a the heels of the Steve Albini-produced live album Live at the Hideout, Screaming Females stopped by the Triple Rock Social Club in Minneapolis last night.

The tour was co-headlined by Pujol, who we recently saw opened up for J. Roddy & the Business… and also Kitten Forever opened up this triple-rock show.

Setlist

Exclusive for this October/November tour is Screaming Females’ 7″ of “Wishing Well”, which was sold for $5 and it’s a good way to support your favorite touring band. Although, funny enough, if you look at their setlist, they had no intention of playing that song…

The thing to note about this trio is that singer/guitarist Marissa Paternoster has a belt strap to hold up her guitar (unlike traditional over-the-shoulder straps). What I’ve witness is that she can easily move around and quickly play notes on the guitar’s neck without anyway intruding straps. Plus, I’ve also seen her flip her guitar forward, and taking it off seemed easy enough. I’m not sure why everyone else isn’t using this belt guitar strap?

Musically, the band is punk/borderline metal. Lots of energy and the crowd love to mosh, and occasionally body surf, to the songs.

As for their set last night at the Triple Rock, they had mic-issues on “Boss”, which the mic did not work, despite the ‘screaming’ from Paternoster. When the mic worked, it was undermixed.

Screaming Females’ Live at the Hideout is out now. If you catch them on this tour, check out the $5 7″ single “Wishing Well”, which is only available on this tour.
