Norwegian sensation Sigrid’s first headlining tour for her debut album Sucker Punch is going strong… selling out the Fine Line Music Café this Monday, September 30th. . …

Norwegian singer Sigrid headlined her sold-out show on September 30th at the Fine Line Music Café in support of her debut album Sucker Punch.

New York’s Raffaella (with live backing band bassist Charlie and drummer Alonso) opened up the show with a very brief 30-min set. This was the singer/songwriter’s first time in Minneapolis, and she started her set with her first single, “Bruce Willis” (which she jokingly called it “yippee ki-yay motherf***er”).

Although she’s still very new to the music scene (with only one EP called Ballerina released in August 2019 via Mom+Pop), you can tell that she’s been performing for a while now. It probably won’t be long until she’s back in town, and with a strong audience support, given that she’s won over quite a few fans in the audience.

As with any limited release, she basically played her entire EP and throwing in a Mariah Carey cover “Always Be My Baby”, which she commented as, “You guys might know this one…

She ended her set with her major hit single “Sororicide”. The song reached #1 on Spotify Viral US Top 50 and #6 on the Spotify Viral Global Top 50.

Sigrid was quite playful with her audience, as she jumped on stage to sing the title track from her debut album Sucker Punch (Island Records). Fans absolutely went crazy and singing along to her singles, and Sigrid encourage, often making funny faces and interacting with her fans.

Stardom came quite quickly to the Norwegian singer, with her debut EP Don’t Kill My Vibe (title track played in the middle of her set), ended up winning the BBC Music Sound of 2018.

Her preceding album single “Strangers” hit #10 on the UK charts, followed by the release of her debut album being the #1 album in the Norwegian charts and #4 on the UK charts. Naturally she saved the song as the penultimate song to help build up energy as she ended with a sort of encore song, “Don’t Feel Like Crying”.

Of course, in America, she didn’t hit the charts, but Norwegian music fans (yes, there’s plenty of those in the Minneapolis area), highly anticipated Sigrid coming here and, as a result, sold out the venue months and months in advance. If you don’t follow the Norwegian music scene, you may have heard her cover of the late Leonard Cohen’s “Everybody Knows” on the film Justice League. Sadly, she did not play the cover on this tour… but here’s always a chance she will next time.
