The annual free* Lakeside Guitar Festival event will be taking place August 11-13, 2023, at the Historic Como Lakeside Pavilion, a lakefront community Artis oasis in Saint Paul.



The lineup for Friday’s show will feature:

We previously caught The Mood Swings in March 2023 and wrote, “To be perfectly honest, I was rather excited to see The Mood Swings. The band, featuring Ashley Ackerson and Sallie Watson, had not released anything new since 2009’s Recessionista. While the band would play on and off gigs, it seemed like they are fairly inactive since 2009.”

The official Lakeside Guitar Festival after party will take place on Sunday, August 13th, featuring Marc Ribot + John Medeski and Carrie Rodriguez and Klezmerson.

We’ve previously seen all these bands, including Ribot with June 2023 and Carrie Rodriguez in April 2013: “As expected, fiddler and singer/songwriter Carrie Rodriguez played a lot of tracks from her latest album, Give Me All You Got. Helping Rodriguez on various instruments and sometime backing vocals was Romantica’s Luke Jacobs (with Ben Kyle nowhere to be found).”

Michigan-based hard rock group Pop Evil is out on tour in support of their album Skeletons.



In discussing the album, frontman Leigh Kakaty said, “This is about us as a band stripping everything down to the bones. It’s more uptempo, it’s got bigger riffs, and we’re trying to capture the energy of our live show.”



“But it’s also a positive message,” he adds. “I know it’s a morbid visual, but behind every skeleton, there’s a story and something worth talking about. Overall, it’s about looking at something in a positive way. And I’m excited for everyone to hear that.”
