Come on Barbie, let’s go party!

Thanks to the super popular Barbie movie, which features Aqua’s “Barbie Girl” as its anthem (and also the main song on the Barbie soundtrack), the Danish band’s song “Barbie Girl” returned to the UK Top 40 for the first time in 25 years. In conjunction, their new single “Barbie World” which features Nicki Minaj and Ice Spice reached top 10 song in numerous countries around the world. The new song also earned Aqua their first Grammy nominations… not bad for a band that we haven’t heard from in 25 years.

By the way, this is Aqua’s first tour in the U.S. since the late ’90s!

Vassy to open.

KC Rae (of Now, Now)
with Athletic Assistants
at 7th St Entry

first-avenue.com

Now, Now’s KC Dalager will be releasing her debut solo album Think I’m Gonna Die, under her stagename KC Rae. The album comes out November 10, 2023, and there will be her first solo show ever on December 14th, at the 7th Street Entry.

We’ve seen Now, Now since they were known as Now, Now Every Children, starting in Feb 2010: “Now, Now Every Children was the headliner, and there’s really nothing ironic about their name – they are really young. Whoever said they were twenty-three is clearly smoking crack, they seem 18 and under. But that’s OK, they seem to handle themselves on stage like pros… and judging from their tour stories, it would seem that they’ve done a world tour.”

UPDATE: They have announced that Athletic Assistants as opening band.

Local legend band The Jayhawks is headlining the Palace Theatre, in St Paul, in support of their ninth album Paging Mr. Proust coming to vinyl for the first time since its original 2016 release.

We saw The Jayhawks show in Dec 2018 and wrote, “… the highlight had to be with Johnson and longtime Soul Asylum guitarist Dan Murphy (looking thinner but very happy) forming “semi-Smog” an almost lineup of alt supergroup Golden Smog (sans Jeff Tweedy) for a version of 1998’s ‘Until You Came Along’.”

Golden Smog to open. The show is billed as Golden Smog Electric, featuring Gary Louris, Kraig Johnson, Dan Murphy, Marc Perlman, and Steve Gorman.

Nashville/Toronto soulful singer, songwriter, and producer Billy Raffoul is touring in support of For All These Years, which will be out on October 20 via Nettwerk.

Talking about the new album, Billy shares, “‘For All These Years’ is a collection of songs exploring different relationships and characters. One’s relationship with their father, a relationship with a loved one battling addiction, reminders of a past relationship that follow you around.. Apart from three collaborations with my brother Peter Raffoul, I wrote this album on my own and spent a good amount of time living with each story until they felt ready, ‘For All These Years’ is the first record I’ve ever made that encapsulates all my musical inspirations in one LP.”
