One of Scottland’s biggest buzz bands, The Snuts, is currently on tour in support of their new album Millennials… stopping by the 7th Street Entry, in Minneapolis, on Mario Day (Mar10).
Opening the sold-out all-ages show was The Dalmatian Club from “Dinkytown”. If you’re not from around the city, this is a college-area. It’s where the Varsity Theater is located, around that area.
The group is relatively new, having formed in 2022, and they played some breezy, upbeat, bright Summer songs.
Unfortunately, after their first song, the band had lost the sound to one of their guitars and delayed their set until the sound engineer sort it out. I am assuming the band didn’t get a soundcheck.
They played their new single, “Out of Hand”, which was very catchy and easy to follow.
The Dalmatian Club’s next show is on May 25, at the 7th Street Entry.
Although The Snuts is enjoying a sold-out North American tour, singer and guitarist Jack Cochrane said in his thick Scottish accent, “We’ve come a long way from here. We’re never sure if anyone would show up.” He’s thanking fans for being so devoted, and happily accept any gifts the fans brought to the show. One fan even made some clothing with some special designs for the group.
It’s been a long road for the young band to get here, having started as school friends from primary and secondary school. Everyone knows everyone, so there’s a sense of a tight knit group of fans, with Cochrane the band leader, Joe McGillveray on guitar, Callum Wilson “aka 29” on bass, and “Joko” Jordan Mackay on drums.
The band plays very catchy 2-min pop songs, like their debut demo “Glasgow”, which was praised for having amazing melodies. By 2018, the band signed to major label Parlophone Records, on the strength of their singles “Seasons” and “Manhattan Project”.
2023 was the opportunity for The Snuts to tour as support act for Louis Tomlinson, who played the Armory on June 16, 2023. The 7th Street Entry show was the band’s first headlining show in the area, and this may be the smallest venues that group will play. I predict when they return, it’ll be at a much bigger venue, based the sold-out young audience at the show.
The Snuts is a fun band and they’re having a blast playing in America. Although they hinted that no one in America can understand them, even though they’re speaking English. The band is mindful of this, and Cochrane, whenever he talks, he said he “speaks very slowly.”
Highlight of their show was for the song, “Always”. It’s best to experience this live, with a full audience, who knew the song and could help sing back this memorable song.
