Chicago’s Friko (vocalist/guitarist Niko Kapetan and drummer Bailey Minzenberger) to headline the Fine Line, in Minneapolis, on May 22, 2025.

We saw Friko in Sep 2024 and wrote, “Chicago band Friko (vocalist/guitarist Niko Kapetan and drummer Bailey Minzenberger) opened the show. Prior to their First Avenue appearance, the full band stopped for a signing of their album Where we’ve been, Where we go from here (ATO Records) and live session at the Electric Fetus record store, in Minneapolis. The group is known for their high-energy live shows, and they certainly let loose on the main stage at First Avenue. Singer Niko mentioned that being on stage and playing to an audience was their dream. Playing at the venue that Prince made famous, well, that was a dream come true. You can tell that the band idolized Minneapolis and the First Avenue venue.”

Napalm Death and Melvins are co-headlining First Avenue on May 22, 2025.

We saw Napalm Death in April 2016 and said, “Napalm Death has been around forever. They started in 1981 and have been around ever since. These guys were probably the most classifiable band of the night. They were metal, with a little bit of punk, a little bit of grind… well crap, now you understand why the phrase “soiree of weirdness” is a perfect way to explain the music of last night. Their lyrics, if you can actually understand them, make you think. Some are political and some just really make you question other people’s views on the world and even your own views. It was great to see this emotion displayed live and even more amazing to hear Mark explain what some of the songs were actually about. When he explained the meaning behind some of them, you could just hear the passion in his voice and it made you feel passionate about the music they were putting out there.”

We last saw King Buzzo (singer from the Melvins) in Aug 2024 and said, “Officially, the band is called King Dunn, on their “King Dunn Tour,” but for clarity, the show is billed as King Buzzo & Trevor Dunn. This is not to be confused with Melvins Lite, which is a trio featuring King Buzzo, Dale Crover, and Trevor Dunn. Personally speaking, they should just call this Melvins with Dunn, but that might even be more confusing. Anyway, originally, the King Dunn duo was meant to come to the Turf Club in 2020, but the pandemic forced the cancellation… so this King Dunn show was literally years in the making.”
