Weekend Gamer: Season 2
Hooray, the new season of Fallout is here. Amazon dropped the first episode of Season 2 a day earlier than originally announced.
Season 2 picks up right where Season 1 ended, where we saw Kyle McLaughlin’s character, in a power armor, escaping to New Vegas, with his daughter, Lucy and the Ghoul in pursuit. Although Amazon did a six-minute recap of Season 1, it did make me want to go back and re-watch the first season… because it’s just that good.
The show starts off the introduction of a mysterious man, who you think is Mr House, or related to House, sitting in a bar, observing men in a bar. The atmosphere is that robots are putting people out of work, so people are desperate for money… which House does offer someone, if they put this experimental chip in the back of their neck. You soon find out that it’s a mind-controlling device that causes heads to explode if they fight against it. So, already the new season will be about House and this mind-controlling chip that is the true threat.
After that ‘explosive’ violent intro, we see our familiar character, the Ghoul, in a bit of a pickle with the Great Khan. It was all part of the plan, when you see Lucy, saving the Ghoul and shooting all the Khans in none-lethal ways. Of course, once the Ghoul was freed, he basically destroyed every Khan in horrific violent ways, like he got the Bloody Mess perk.
We get some flashback, and we also catch up with what’s going on in Vault 33. It seems like they’re having a malfunction of the Water Chip, which is in reference to the first Fallout game. We also see Vault 32 and 31, but you know what we don’t get? We don’t know what’s going with Maximus or the Brotherhood of Steel. Which, I will be okay with if they had less of Maximus and more of Lucy’s journey. To me, this story about New Vegas and Lucy’s dad has nothing to do with Maximus, so why wedge him into the story?
With the absent of a Strength 10, Intelligent 0, character of Maximus, many viewers are saying that’s why this episode is so good. I didn’t realize so many people hated the character.
The episode ends with Hank McLean (Kyle McLaughlin), and setting him up with his motivation this season. It seems like he’s going to further develop the mind-controlling chip that was introduced earlier in the episode. To me, this is just a weird out of left-field for this character. We know that he’s this low-level executive that was also the overseer of Vault 33 from Season 1. Now to say that he’s some sort of genius that is continuing House’s work is a little far-fetched, in my opinion.
Unlike Season 1, Season 2 will be released week-by-week, so fans will need to tune in every week to get the next chapter in the story. As a binger, I don’t love this, I just want to know how it all ends… but I understand why Amazon does this – for weekly engagement and it keeps fans returning to their Amazon Prime platform. With all that said, it looks like
How far the video game Tomb Raider has come. Originally the protagonist, Lara Croft, is a busty, polygon character, but as the modern age catches up to the popular character, they (the developers Crystal Dynamics) redesigned her with realistic proportion… and it is this version of the character that the Netflix series Tomb Raider: The Legend of Lara Croft is based on.
The second (and final) season of Tomb Raider: The Legend of Lara Croft dropped on December 11, 2025. There were really no promotion or advertisements for this show, even though I am a big fan of the video game, I had no idea this show existed. So, before I could see Lara Croft’s final adventure, I had to start from the beginning – the first season that aired originally on October 10, 2024.
Once I started the very first pilot, I vaguely remember trying to watch the show but was bored by it and fell asleep. It starts off in a Chilean jungle and Croft is trying to evade some locals and then finding some artifact. Fairly typical Lara Croft raiding some tombs story. Years later, someone broke into her home to take back the artifact that she took those many years ago. By the end of the first episode, you find out that there is a mysterious thing inside the artifact that
I think the story and setup might actually be a great story for a video game – where you control the character to travel the world and track down the stolen artifact… but can seem kind of boring watching it unfold in an animated series. That’s probably why it got low ratings and Netflix decided to not renew it. Again, I also think there was no advertisement for it, so that was also a problem. To me, they could have easily cross-promote the show with the Tomb Raider I–III Remastered that came out in 2024 and the Tomb Raider IV–VI Remastered, which came out February 2025.
The upcoming Tomb Raider: Legacy of Atlantis, which was announced at this year’s Game Awards show, is a reboot and reimagining of the first Tomb Raider game from 1996… only redone on Unreal Engine 5 (pretty much all modern games are developed on Unreal Engine) with the current/modern Lara Croft looks.
Like I said, they could have done so much more to cross-promote the cartoon series, but I feel maybe Netflix or Crystal Dynamics or Aspyr (the Remastered developers) didn’t talk to each other or didn’t care.
Sadly, after being uninspired to finish Season 1, I’ve decided to give up on this series… but just be aware that Season 2 is out now.
