Portland’s The Dandy Warhols will be releasing an all-covers album Pin Ups, set for release on March 20, 2026, via Beat The World/Little Cloud Records.
Covers on the album includes The Cure, Gang of Four, The Clash, Bob Dylan, The Cramps, The Runaways, and The Beatles… but I have to say that I love seeing Violent Femmes’ “Kiss Off” as the preview single. The vocals for “Kiss Off” is by the Dandy’s keyboardist Zia McCabe, and it sounded muted and distorted. I have to say that I prefer the more angsty vocals of the original Violent Femmes version… but at least the Dandies are doing their version if it.
If you’re a massive fan, be sure to pre-order as soon as possible, as the first 50 US orders will include a signed postcard. Order directly here.

The Real Janelle & Peel Session by Bratmobile (Oct 2, 2025)
The Real Janelle & The Peel Session
Out of print 1994 EP “The Real Janelle” b/w the first vinyl release of Bratmobile’s “Peel Session.”
A1. The Real Janelle
A2. Brat Girl
A3. Yeah, Huh?
A4. Die
A5. And I Live In A Town Where The Boys Amputate Their Hearts
A6. Where Eagles Dare
B1. There’s No Other Way / No You Don’t
B2. Bitch Theme
B3. Make Me Miss America
B4. Panik
I used to own all the Bratmobile albums, but when I moved, I sort of lost them. It’s either all gone or maybe it’s in boxes in my attic. Not all is lost, I did rip them on MP3, so I can still listen to these songs. They’re still great, after all these years.
Kill Rock Star recently re-issued these classic albums, including The Real Janelle EP, combined with The Peel Session, which does feature a Blur cover of “There’s No Other Way”, medley with “No You Don’t”. Yes, I used to own both on CD. I’ve always wondered why the band chose to cover that song, considering that Blur’s music doesn’t exactly fit with riot grrrls.
Talking about the so-called “Blurmobile” song, guitarist Erin Smith reminisces, “Back in the day, there was either Blur or Oasis and you could not like both, and I was definitely always solidly in the Blur camp. Their guitarist Graham Coxon has always been a keen supporter of the underground, and a huge Kill Rock Stars fan. It was the thrill of my life when Blur’s Great Escape Tour came through DC and Graham came up behind me, singing my signature one finger, E string only version of ‘There’s No Other’ way in my ear!! He had heard the Peel Session!”
Bratmobile at Mosswood Meltdown (July 20, 2025)
While Jimi saw Bratmobile recently in at Mosswood in July 2025, I saw the band in March 2001, when they opened up for The Donnas: “I was primarily at the Donnas show for Bratmobile. Again, as I have said I was too young to have seen them for the first part of their career, so I was super excited to see them finally. I owned all of Bratmobile’s EPs and albums at the time, so I was really ready to see them in Minneapolis. I wish I had taken notes or had access to their setlist, but I’m going to hazard a guess that they played songs from Ladies, Women and Girls, including my favorite “Cheap Trick Record”. They sounded just like on their record, so it was just as how I would imagine them live.”
Creep by Azure Blue (Nov 21, 2025)
Matinée Recordings Releases
matda058 THE POPGUNS – Who Never Found Love EP
matda057 AZURE BLUE – Creep
matda056 BUBBLEGUM LEMONADE – French Letters In The Sand EP
Paolo Bardelli writes, “In this mood of “revival radioheadiano” fits this cover of “Creep” that was kindly reported to us by our American correspondents of Weheartmusic: the Swedish dream pop artist Azure Blue, aka Tobias Isaksson, has reinterpreted the famous song by Radiohead in an electronic dress Depeche Mode style. The result is not varied (the part of the arpeggiatori is a bit monochord) but has its own respectable perspective.
