Justin Furstenfeld, the singer and guitarist of Blue October, will be headlining the new FIVE venue in Jacksonville, Florida, on March 6, 2026.

Blue October

We saw the band in October 2019 and wrote, “Fan-favorite Blue October, led by brothers singer/guitarist Justin and drummer Jeremy Furstenfeld, just headlined First Avenue on October 24th. Blue October formed in Texas in 1995 and had over 20+ singles in the top 40 of the alternative rock charts, over their thirteen albums. Currently, the band is on a “Farewell 2019 Tour”, as part of their I Will Follow You tour (their last album came out in 2018 called I Hope You’re Happy.”

Legendary punk band Strung Out will be headlining the Albatross (formerly the Underbelly). When I was a radio DJ at KFSR 90.7 FM, I used to play these guys all the time. Not really sure what the Californian band is up to these days, but in their heyday, they were signed to Fat Wreck and were skateboard idols. Check out our review of A Fat Wreck: The punk-u-mentary.

The film is chock full of bands who fondly reminisce about their work (and play) with Fat Wreck Chords. There are segments highlighting the first bands signed to the label: Lagwagon, No Use for a Name, Propagandhi, Good Riddance and Strung Out. Additional interviews and commentary are provided by members of Foo Fighters, Rise Against, Against Me!, Me First and the Gimme Gimmes, Bad Religion and Get Dead, to name a few.

A Fat Wreck does not contain a lot of lengthy scenes, nor does it contain long and tedious interviews. It takes a more punk rock approach by using short interview segments interspersed with scenes featuring hilarious puppet versions of the interviewees acting out the stories they’re telling. Short snippets of concert footage, still images of the bands and rapid-fire animated transitions are also added to the mix. These quick scene changes are a punk’s dream come true.
