Boston heavy-pop disruptors JVK just closed out Jax Punx’s “Hall of Fame” show, which is Under the Bridge. For those not from around Jacksonville, this is a very unique “venue” that is literally under the I-95 bridge (officially named Fuller Warren Bridge) over the St Johns River.
I was super impressed with the free parking (which doubles as an arts market during some weekends). Across the street from the parking lot is the free skatepark called The Artist Walk Skate Park. This $8.8 million concrete skate park was a gift from the city, and was opened in August 2024. It looks legit, with giant JAX letters that doubles as half pipes. I was pleased to see the local kids were just hanging out and skateboarding on a Saturday night (instead of playing video games indoors).
The “Hall of Fame” Show was a special show that Jax Punx/Winter Furlong (who is the bassist for Spike’s Jericho) organized. That meant that all the bands on the bill had played one of these Under the Bridge shows previously. Before each band appearing on stage, you got a brief introduction from Jax Punx.
First band was local band Kill Tactik who all wore matching red jerseys with player numbers. This is actually pretty cool and will help me explain what is going on. For example, #9 was the singer, or co-singer, for the first few songs. He would disappear or play guitars later, leaving #91 as band lead singer. They were metal. I don’t really know my metal, maybe death or nu-metal. It’s not cookie monster metal. They had a great moshing pit going on during their set.
Jacksonville’s Divorce Culture was next. They sounded a bit like Green Day, and they sang a little Harvey Danger’s “Flagpole Sitta” during their soundcheck… so you get the idea what they sounded like. Vocals were traded between Tyler (aka Rokko) and Brian.
It was Frigga Five’s first Jacksonville show, and they were very happy with the crowd. The band formed in Atlanta in November 2022, and features Kaleb as singer (who did his best to keep his cowboy hat on). They had a very slow song called “Atom Bomb” in the middle of the set (which I guess they said it was Smashing Pumpkins song), before picking up the energy again with “P.A.B.”

Massachusetts’ JVK ended the show. They’re touring in support of their debut album Pop Culture Affair, which recently came out.
As with these first album bands, they’ll practically play all the songs on the album, including any of the singles like “Machine” or the title track (which started their set off). I really like their second song they played, “When I Think About Love” which had a great line about when I think about love I think about you.
If you were wondering about the initials “JVK”, it’s singer Jo Krieger’s initials. The rest of the band features Atticus Crowley, Kay Kwiatek, Liv Barcohana, and Zach Feinstein.
These Under the Bridge Jax Punx shows are cool. It has a great vibe. I love the breeze from the river… and it’s a great hangout for young people. I’m probably returning to the area to check out that Art Fair.
