Mother’s Day is always the second Sunday in May. This year falls on May 10, 2026.

Sweat by Melanie C (May 1, 2026)

Spice Girls
The Spice Girls were a British girl group formed in 1994, consisting of Mel B (“Scary Spice”), Melanie C (“Sporty Spice”), Emma Bunton (“Baby Spice”), Geri Halliwell (“Ginger Spice”), and Victoria Beckham (“Posh Spice”). They have sold more than 100 million records worldwide, making them the best-selling girl group of all time. With their “girl power” mantra, the Spice Girls redefined the girl group concept by targeting a young female fanbase. They led the teen pop resurgence of the 1990s, were a major part of the Cool Britannia era, and became popular culture icons of the decade.
Melanie C
Just in time for Mother’s Day, Melanie C dropped Sweat. If you weren’t a child of the 90s, Mel C is probably better known as Sporty Spice from the Spice Girls.
With Mel’s ninth studio album Sweat, she is returning to the music of her youth, as a teenage raver from The F**king Yeah Four, before she joined the Spice Girls.
As you can see from her recent photos and the cover artwork of Sweat, Sporty really does live up to her name.
Of course, with a new album, she’ll be doing a promotional tour to support the record… making some rare appearance in America:

In Times of Dragons by Tori Amos (May 1, 2026)

Tori Amos
Tori Amos is an American singer-songwriter and pianist. She is a classically trained musician with a mezzo-soprano vocal range. A child prodigy, Amos entered the Peabody Institute’s preparatory division at five, but left at eleven, coming of age as a pianist in Washington, D.C. bars. Amos was the lead singer of the short-lived 1980s pop-rock group Y Kant Tori Read before achieving her breakthrough as a solo artist in the early 1990s. Her songs focus on a broad range of topics, including sexuality, feminism, politics, and religion.
Tori Amos
In Times of Dragons is the new studio album from the Cornflake Girl Tori Amos. The cover artwork reminds me of Game of Thrones (you know, Khaleesi, Mother of Dragons).
Strangely enough, Amos’ album is a protest against tyranny, as she explains in her own words:
This is a metaphorical story about the fight for democracy over tyranny. We really don’t know how this American experiment of democracy is going to end up. I’m a pragmatist. I’m not an optimist. I’m not a fatalist. But as a songwriter I needed to hear the clarion call and just say.

In The Safety of The Light
by Jenny Gillespie Mason (June 12, 2026)
Jenny Gillespie Mason
For more than a decade of pop, jazz under her stagename Sis (most recently as Sis and the Lower Wisdom), Jenny Gillespie Mason returns to the folk music with her debut solo album In the Safety of the Light. The album was produced by Noah Georgeson (Joanna Newsom, Devendra Banhart) and will be released on June 12, 2026, via Native Cat Recordings.
For those in the San Francisco/Berkeley area, the record release show is at University of California Botanical Gardens, with The Saxophones, on June 11, 2026.
So far, only “Rungs of Love” is available as a single (from the upcoming album). The song is described as being inspired by her “guru Mother Mirra Alfassa’s descriptions of the rungs of love in a relationship–from selfish love that cares a lot about what you get back, to a love that gives without wanting anything back, to a divine love that serves only God. The song moves between the verses and the chorus from depicting a romantic human relationship, its successes and bumps, to meditating on the relationship I want to have with God.”

Don’t You Worry, Babe
by Belle and Chain (April 9, 2026)
Belle and Chain
Duo Belle and Chain is the musical project of actress Spencer Grammer (daughter of Emmy-winning actor Kelsey Grammer – who we previously mentioned his return in Frasier (2023)).
The story behind Belle & Chain is interesting, in 2020 Spencer was a victim of a stabbing that damaged her right hand. As part of the recovery process, she began playing guitar and writing songs. That led to her collaboration with multi-instrumentalist Davis IL, and that is how B&C was formed.
Belle & Chain released their debut single, “Don’t You Worry Babe,” on April 9, and the two are currently touring with Barns Courtney.
The band was supposed to play on April 26, but due to an unexpected Barns’ illness, the show was rescheduled for May 7th, 2026 (this week!)
Update: Please note that Belle & Chain will not be playing with Barns Courtney on May 7th at the Fine Line (rescheduled date).
