It was a beautiful Saturday afternoon, and a perfect moment for a free outdoor show as Graze Food Hall played host to JoJo Green for their Rock the Hall Concert Series.

First, the establishment.  Just a block from Target Field, Graze Food Hall is an upgrade to your normal bar food with four James Beard-nominated chefs and seven culinary concepts all under one roof.   And to entice the pre or after Twins crowd,  they are providing free live shows in their small courtyard, the stage buttressed by a grove of recently planted paper birch trees.

It was among  the newly budding trees that JoJo Green entertained the influx of Twins fans and those who wanted to drink mint juleps and dress up for a simulcast of the Kentucky Derby.

JoJo Green is local and their sound is a fresh one, an amalgamation of funk and jazz in what they call “pop fusion.” They were formed in 2019 by singer, Sharisse Germain, and bassist, Scott Yonke. After working in a few tribute bands, they wanted to write and perform original music, and so far they have released a debut album, The Line, in 2019 and the EP, Summer Tree, in 2022.

Rounding out the group is David Ostrom on guitar, Nancy Long on drums and Zach Miller on sax, three actually, tenor, alto and what looked to be electric soprano.

JoJo Green’s sunny disposition matched the bright day where sunglasses were needed. Their ebullient take on a nostalgic 70’s vibe was the perfect background music for a lazy Saturday afternoon.  Take Fire Escape from The Summer Tree.  Also, a special shout out to their ambitious Pink Floyd covers of “Time” and “The Great Gig in the Sky.”  At midday, in fact, with no lasers!
