Riding on the Gamescom excitement, IKEA and XBOX announced their collaboration: “YXSTABY”. If you were wondering about that crappy name, it’s a weird pronunciation of the Xbox controller layouts – a, b, x, y, start, trigger. However clever they think they are, nobody likes that stupid name. And personally speaking, for myself, I did not really like ANY of their collaboration.

at IKEA (Jacksonville)

I don’t think anyone likes the name YXSTABY (“YX-Stabby”?), but that’s the name of the IKEA and Xbox collaboration. The IKEA’s YXSTABY Gaming Event Weekend is taking place this weekend (October 10-11, 2026).

The event is free, but if you want the free exclusive keychain, you need to register with IKEA… which means you need to create an IKEA account. That’s fine, you get points or something. I don’t go to IKEA that much, because it’s so far away from where I live, and also, I don’t really buy that much furniture.

I didn’t really have anything going on Saturday, so I registered. I’ll report back Saturday evening. From their photos, I think they look dumb, but who knows, maybe in person and interacting with them in real life – I might change my mind.

Event Details:

Test your gaming trivia knowledge, show off your creativity and come dressed as your favorite gaming character; search for the hidden Spartans in the YXSTABY scavenger hunt, take a fun photo, enjoy special gaming-themed food offers, and experience the new YXSTABY collection designed for gaming life at home!

Important: Registration is required to be eligible to receive the YXSTABY event keychain. Keychains will be distributed to registered IKEA Family members on a first-come, first-served basis while supplies last. Registration does not guarantee availability. Limit one keychain per IKEA Family membership.

Costume Contest at Twin Cities Con (10 Nov 2024)

As the Weekend Gamer, I do like a bit of anime and manga, but I’m casual, at best. I love taking photos of cosplayers (especially if the costume is so good!), but I don’t know many current anime, so I usually have to ask them who they are dressed up as (embarrassingly enough). Here is a cosplay photo I took at Twin Cities Convention 2024.

I don’t know any of the guests at WasabiCon, but if you’re into the culture, you’ll know who they are. Plenty of cosplayers, influencers, and local community groups. These are your people!
