The opening track gives me chills, I don’t mean the first song either, I mean the first track. If I wasn’t afraid of offending religious persons, I would say it was a call to worship. Its whispering shhh … we are going to listen to music now. This album is my first exposure to Zach Condon. Condon starting making music at 15. He is now 20 and has a number of albums. I’ve started to go through his back catalog, but for now I am listening to his current album “The Flying Club Cup”. This album has a great old timey feel. Condon’s voice gives this album a unique stamp. For a better idea listen to his music. The slow and subtle motifs , remind me of Sufjan Stevens, it might also be the use of horns. Is it just me or horns becoming a thing, I am going to investigate that more in another post. For now just listen to horns I think they make this album stand out. The music feels like its from another time. He uses many instruments I don’t hear on a regular basis. Like I here a loot , maybe what does a loot sound like. Horns definitely, I hear an accordion, I’ll bet their is a harmonica somewhere too. Anyway the eclecticness of the instrumentation , opens the range of the music so as to not bore, but stay within a predetermined theme. I wouldn’t even know what that theme is olden times I don’t know. Check this album out though, to me its unique and will stay on my pallet for a long time.

I just wanted to add these two links: Beirut – “Postcards from Italy” (by Gus) and Sufjan Stevens – Come on feel the Illinois (by Emelia)
