Listen

The Ruby Suns and Painted Palms are currently on tour together. They stopped by Minneapolis’ 7th Street Entry last night (February 22nd).

PAINTED PALMS

San Francisco’s Painted Palms were not used to the snow here. After launching into “Falling Asleep”, singer Reese Donohue confirmed it as much, “I think it’s a little cold here.”

As Ava and I discussed, she thinks they have a “floral sound”, while I thought they definitely had a “Coast” wave/water rhythm to their sound.

Anyway, as expected, because they’ve only released one single and an EP (Canopy), I believe they played every song they’ve ever recorded or known to them. If you enjoy Canopy, this is the tour to see them.

I’m not entirely sure if they played the b-side off their upcoming “Carousel” 7″, but Poly Vinyl Records is making the song “Click” available to stream. The 7″ is coming out March 5th, 2013.

I would have liked to have stayed for The Ruby Suns, but I had prior commitments. From what I can hear of New Zealand’s The Ruby Suns is they sound like they sing in falsetto and musically a very interesting landscape. I may have been wrong about anticipating Ryan McPhun to sound ‘New Zealander’, as he grew up in California but re-located to New Zealand.

The Ruby Suns are currently on tour in support of their Sub Pop record, Christopher, and Painted Palms are currently supporting Secretly Canadian’s re-issue of Canopy.
