JULIAN CASABLANCAS+THE VOIDZ
at First Avenue
Monday 11/17/14, 7:30pm

$25: first-avenue.com

Like many of you, I love The Strokes. There is this story I like to tell, some years ago, I got into a van full and no one knew each other… but when the driver put on the Strokes’ Is This It album, everyone in the van was singing along.

Part of what made that album so classic is the music melodies of Albert Hammond, Jr., and the vocal styling of Julian Casablancas. Casablancas has been busy building an empire with his Cult Records, and recently released an album called Tyranny with his new band called Julian Casablancas + The Voidz.

What I love is that Casablancas is pricing the digital album for only $3.87. He realized there’s no distribution, packaging, or physical cost and sells it accordingly. Fans will want to pick up the album on CD or vinyl anyway – and you can grab it on one of his tour dates below.
