Marian Hill

With over 20 million stream son Spotify and 65 million loops on Vine, Marian Hill will soon be in Minneapolis next Tuesday at 7th Street Entry in support of her latest EP Sway (Photo Finish/Republic Records).

Marian Hill recently played a sold out show at the 7th Street Entry in Minneapolis last Tuesday, October 6th.

Heavy Mellow

Opening up the show was Heavy Mellow, aka Everett Romano. Romano started his set off with some sensitive/downtempo songs (which he provided the autotuned vocals), and then ended his set as an extended DJ/live remixer.

The last song on his set, he announced was Lido's "Lost" (Heavy Mellow Remix).

Marian Hill is a Philadelphia duo consisting of production/keys Jeremy Lloyd and vocalist Samantha Gongol, and featuring improvisational jazz musician Steve Davit (who played saxophone and doubled as bassist). Their name is based in the two main characters from the musical The Music Man (Harold Hill and Marian Paroo).
The band previously appeared in St Paul, as part of the Communion Club Night (February 2015), and seemingly happy to be back in the Twin Cities.

The tiny 7th Street Entry venue was completely packed with young college students, in love with everything they've heard from Marian Hill. It was incredible to watch the entire audience grinding and swaying to their saxophone-heavy songs… which has been written is described as "sax-ual" music. I would also add in a little dubstep, grime, and electronica.

With only EP, Sway, under their belt, they played all seven songs from the record, such as "One Time", "Wasted", "Lips", "Deep", "Whisky", and "Got It." The latter song's hook was used by INNA for his song "Diggy Down." They dropped in a few new songs, one of which is tentatively titled, "Talk to Me", and midway into their set they had an extended instrumental breakdown.

For the encore, since they actually ran out of all their songs, they decided to replay "One Time", but redone as an alternate mix. This served as a nice bonus for fans who showed up late in their show, since "One Time" was the very first song Marian Hill played on their set.

Based on the strong attendance and demand for more Marian Hill songs, the group will likely return to Minneapolis… hopefully with newer songs and a longer set.

Marian Hill's Sway is out now on Photo Finish / Republic Records.
