Opening the show was Stephen Day, the Georgia native, and Nashville resident. We caught the modern crooner in May 2022 and said, “The packed night of music began with a short twenty-minute set from Jordy Searcy and Stephen Day, who reminded us a couple times that they “were not a band” but “two separate artists”, and who are also a part of the headliner Ben Rector’s band, alongside their Australian drummer.”
It’s been a long journey Nashville’s Stephen Sanchez. His debut EP What Was, Not Now came out near the end of the pandemic (2021) and his single “Until I Found You” landed #23 on the Billboard Hot 100.
Now in September 2023, his debut album Angel Face finally came out on Mercury Records/Republic Records, and this headlining tour in support of the album.
It would appear that the theme of Angel Face is that of a simpler time of the 50s/60s. His band, including Sanchez, were dressed in classic black tuxedo with bowties. Sanchez practiced dance moves of that era too. It felt like he was taking us back in time, especially when the band covered Roy Orbison’s “Oh, Pretty Woman.”
