PJ Harvey

I don’t actually own 2007’s White Chalk by Polly Jean Harvey, or better known as PJ Harvey, but I do have her latest 2-track single called The Devil. This was released last month on iTunes as well as 7″ and CD single from Universal Music.
In celebration of PJ Harvey’s return to the USA in seven years (stopping in at the Palace Theatre in St Paul on Oct 2), I thought you might want to hear my “Stories From Sea”. The last time I saw Polly Jean Harvey was at the Fine Line Music Café, in December 2000… before First Avenue bought them, and before they dropped the “Music Café” portion of the venue’s name.

Again, apology, I have very poor memory of the show, other than she did my favorite song of hers at the time, “Good Fortune”, about early/mid-set, and I could have gone home happy.

I guess it shouldn’t surprise anyone, as she was touring in support of her then-latest album Stories From The City, Stories From The Sea, which is one of my favorite PJ Harvey album that I purchased from Best Buy for $10… back when they actually sold and promoted CDs.

Thanks to Setlist.fm for archiving her setlist, I can see that “Big Exit” was the show’s finale… saving her biggest hit song, “Sheela-Na-Gig” for the encore.

I remember after the show, I started walking towards ‘Sex World’, back when you can park for free in that general direction.

Thinking back, I can’t believe it’s been 24 years since I last saw PJ Harvey. I wish they let us take photos back then, as my memory is not that good.

Anyway, I’m excited to see PJ Harvey is back in the USA. Her 2024 North American tour starts in Washington on 9/11 and ends in Los Angeles on 10/14.
