Belle and Sebastian at First Avenue, Minneapolis (08 May 2024)

05/08 Belle and Sebastian with Haley Heynderickx at First Avenue
|
Opening the show was Haley Heynderickx, who was last seen at the Cedar Cultural Center in April 2022. She’s on stage with Bill the guitarist and Katelin on cello.
Haley mentioned that they were personally asked by Belle & Sebastian to open for them, so it’s been a real honor for her to be on this tour. They seem to be enjoying themselves, and gaining plenty of new fans.
They ended their set with their catchiest song “Oom Sha La La”, followed by their finale, “The Bug Collector.”
As you know, we’re massive Belle & Sebastian fans and it’s always a grand time seeing the band back in town. The Glasow group is touring in support of new album Late Developers (Matador Records).

Belle & Sebastian (27 May 2022)
|
We last saw the band in May 2022 and wrote, “The return to the Palace on May 27th also marked another special occasion, as they celebrated one of their crewman, Johnny Lang’s 50th birthday. They actually even planned on having him sing The Rolling Stones’ “Jumpin’ Jack Flash” (after a few shots of whiskey, of course). It was quite an eventful night. Also, it’s worth noting that Sarah Martin was absent in the band, due to contracting COVID. She’s replaced by violinist/backup vocalist Kristen, at least that’s what I heard singer Stuart Murdoch say on stage.”
The band is in good spirits. For this 2024 tour, they’re playing completely different sets. Looking at other setlists, it’s wildly different… this just tells me that the band is really that good, able to adjust and play whatever they wanted.
For the Minneapolis show, they celebrated Colin’s 50th birthday (the lights guy), and during the show, they showed off some photos they took around the city, which included the Bob Dylan mural and the new Allianz Stadium.
As with all the modern B&S shows, they invited their dedicated fans to come on stage to dance as they play “The Boy With the Arab Strap” and “If You Find Yourself Caught in Love”.
For the encore, for Minneapolis, they covered Prince’s “I Could Never Take The Place Of Your Man”, followed by a partial “Lord Anthony” (per request from fans).
The final song was fan-favorite “Me and the Major”.
