Flashback: Superdrag at 400 Bar, Minneapolis (December 4, 2000)

You already know that I can’t remember anything. This is a really good example of my bad memory: when I saw Superdrag at SXSW in 2009, I thought that was my first (and only) time I saw the band.

It wasn’t until I was moving to Jacksonville, did someone found my autographed (personalized to me) Superdrag’s 2000 album In the Valley of Dying Stars, did vague flashes of memories came back to me. Upon further investigation, Amy, who was at the show with me (I don’t remember her being there at all!), at the 400 Bar, in Minneapolis, she mentioned that we met the entire band under the 400 Bar’s green room after the show. I don’t remember this at all, but I will take her word for it.

Another weird thing was that the dates seemed messed up. Their tour dates for 2000 lists the 400 Bar show for August 14th, 2000, but Setlist.fm lists the show for December 4, 2000. It’s possible the band played the 400 Bar twice, in August and December (but unlikely). I believe the band may have delayed their tour, because their record In the Valley of Dying Stars didn’t come out until September. That made the most sense to me, considering that I bought their CD at their show (they wouldn’t have any copies in August).

I don’t know what else I can add, other than the fact that I hated that they didn’t play their hit song, “Sucked Out.” I don’t know the backstory, but I heard a rumor that John Davis can’t sing those notes on the song… but it could also be that the band just doesn’t like the song and won’t perform it live.

I really wish I had a photo of the show, but instead, I do have the setlist, which was neatly folded in the CD case.
