Sometimes you match your bands with your holidays, like last year’s St. Patrick’s Day concert and sometimes you don’t. After postponing the original date of their concert due to the snow storm that hit the Twin Cities last weekend, Clover County made their way to the Turf Club for a very different vibe of Americana folk rock on St. Patrick’s Day 2026.

Opening the evening was Ethansroom, the band name for Ethan Fortenberry, a singer, songwriter and multi-instrumentalist based in Nashville. He’s been steadily releasing music for years, with this year’s EP ULTRA LIGHT highlighting his indie folk sound. Solo on guitar, Ethansroom was exactly the bedroom rock you would hope for on title track of the recent EP, with a tenor range and acoustic guitar with complex runs. A quick tuning had him describe the next number Over It, a good descriptor for many of us in these times. That guitar work was solid and very comfortable for anyone who loves a certain zone of indie rock similar to Ben Gibbard (among many others). Laughing Out Loud was a paean to how the passing of time puts things in perspective and Ethansroom was cruising along in his set. That finger plucked style was impressive and Mad at Nothing continued that musical trend, with a soothing intro that also had him at his loudest dynamic vocals. Closing with Virgo, Ethansroom finished his enjoyable thirty five minute set as he had started with complicated guitar and wistful lyrics.

Clover County was up to close the evening. Band name for singer songwriter A.G. Schiano, the Atlanta based artist released her debut album Finer Things late in 2025. Solo on stage with guitar, Clover County began with a fun number in Limbo, while Under These Conditions was the semi-biographical number of heading out to “do what you want, not what you’re supposed to”. It was a gentle guitar and singing and she had pulled the crowd in pretty quickly. That slight drawl from the native Floridian played to her advantage in the genre without being overbearingly Southern and it was quietly entrancing. A quick tuning led to a new song in Palm Reading in the American Legion Parking Lot, which may have been the straightest country number of the early going (and included the rhyming of Winston-Salem with “where you came from”). Ethansroom joined Clover County on stage to play banjo, and it provided an extra layer of depth on Sweeter. Ethan switched to guitar for the next few songs (and would switch between the two instruments for the remainder of the set), and Whiskey Cherry had a steel guitar sound on the intro, deepening that Americana feel. Clover County had a nice way of doubling down or pulling back from the drawl on vocals to great effect as the song required.

A joke of “You chose to live here…and you stayed?” initially fell flat, but Clover County bounced back by making fun of her own inability to handle the colder weather (side note: prediction of 70 degrees on Saturday here in the Twin Cities had the locals knowing what was up). Nothin’ at All was a little self-deprecating, but also somewhat touching in its emotionality. Air Park highlighted Ethan’s supporting guitar work and the vocals rode a little higher because of that dual guitar work. Ultraviolet was a The Current radio favorite and the crowd was into it. Virginia Slim was a clever end to the evening’s theme of missed or bad romance and Clover County wrapped up their countrified evening with an appreciation for the crowd before heading off the stage.
