We♥KC! July 1-7, 2026, Upcoming concerts / shows (Kansas City, MO / Lawrence, KS metro)
uh…it’s hot out!
That’s July in the Midwest for you, where the heat index can be regularly in the triple-digits. Thankfully, pools, water filling stations, and ample shade abound, so take the appropriate precautions, especially if attending an outdoor venue, and are in the sun.
KC has just two FIFA World Cup matches left to host, but the game play of this tournament has been mesmerizing, and we had the ultimate FOMO watching the Dutch fans and their Oranje Fan Walk down Grand Ave last week. KC also has the highest TV ratings of anywhere in the country, so its reputation as a soccer town is becoming nationally known.
A light week of shows- to be expected with the holiday and those related events. Let’s look at the week to start the month in Kansas City / Lawrence KS metro musical happenings from July 1st to July 7th.

WEDNESDAY JULY 1
THURSDAY JULY 2
Louis Tomlinson, July 2, Cable Dahmer Arena- Independence, $41-$167
The former One Direction vocalist is out on his large ‘How Did We Get Here? World Tour that covers Europe and North America and began in March, in support of his third solo album, which was released in late January.
For the new album, he assembled a handful of initial ideas in the English countryside before decamping to Costa Rica for three weeks in early 2025. He dove into writing and recording alongside primary collaborator and co-producer Nico Rebscher [Aurora, Alice Merton].
Ultimately, Louis is unabashedly himself on the album, and it’s undeniable. “Taking all of the steps I did to get here was important. I needed to the confidence to become the artist I wanted to be and make a hopefully big, but personal album. I think I did.”
Sparta, July 2, Bottleneck-Lawrence, $20-$25
The El Paso, TX alt-rock emo band has returned with new album, Cut A Silhouette, via Equal Vision Records, Dine Alone Records. The record reveals frontman Jim Ward’s rediscovery of his love for music. “This is a love record,” he happily declares. “I want it to leave an impression, and at this point in my career, that’s what I yearn for. I’m working so hard to make something meaningful to me, and I really want people to get a chance to feel it as well.”
The album title comes from a quote by Macaulay Culkin from a John Candy documentary of all things- “He said that when he met John Candy, he just entered your brain and cut a silhouette,” says Ward. “Like, he just left an impression is the way I see it. And when I heard him say that, I was like ‘Oh! That’s what I want this record to be.”
Producer J. Robbins also features on a number of the songs, as does Brooks Harlan, who plays in Jawbox with Robbins, as well as in War On Women (who will open this Bottleneck show), while Carlos Arévalo from Chicano Batman plays guitar on the hopeful fragility of “Midnights”.
FRIDAY JULY 3
SATURDAY JULY 4
Bob Dylan, Lucinda Williams, John Doe Trio, July 4, Starlight, $59.25-$198.75
Celebrate America 250 with the Bobfather! More than 60 years after his eponymous 1962 debut, Dylan’s songwriting, equally poetic and down-to-earth, has inspired artists from John Lennon to Joni Mitchell and David Bowie.
The 85-year-old is hailed as one of the greatest songwriters of all time and has been a cultural icon since breaking onto the music scene in the 1960s, having sold an estimated 125 million records. He specializes in a variety of different genres, including folk, rock, blues, country, and gospel. Expect him to play in near-darkness, not be obligated to play your favorites, and probably not acknowledge the audience, but that’s how he rolls.
The night kicks off with two strong and worthy acts- the “Americana icon” Lucinda Williams who will feature songs from her 2026 album World’s Gone Wrong (she got married on stage at First Avenue– that’s rock n’ roll!) and opening will be The John Doe Folk Trio—featuring X frontman Doe, bassist Kevin Smith (no, not that one) and drummer Conrad Choucroun.
The 35-date leg began on June 4 in Troutdale, OR, and wraps in Nashville on August 1. Absolutely no videos or pictures will be tolerated during this performance. Fireworks display will follow the show.
SUNDAY JULY 5
TUESDAY JULY 7
A Beautiful Noise: The Neil Diamond Musical, July 7-12, Starlight, $22.20-$148.90
American Idol winner Nick Fradiani leads the cast as part of a multi-year North American Tour, following a run on Broadway, and this run marks the musical’s Kansas City premiere. A Beautiful Noise: The Neil Diamond Musical was created in collaboration with Neil Diamond himself.
This is the uplifting true story of how a kid from Brooklyn became a chartbusting, show-stopping American rock icon. With 140 million albums sold, a catalog of classics like “America,” “Forever in Blue Jeans,” and “Sweet Caroline,” an induction into the Songwriters and Rock and Roll Halls of Fame, a Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award, and sold-out concerts around the world that made him bigger than Elvis, Neil Diamond’s story was made to shine on Broadway, where the biggest stars tell their story.
