There’s no doubt about it: vinyl records are back and hotter than ever. Last year, the record industry grew 17%, hitting $1.2 billion in revenue. So what’s next? How about tiny vinyls? A few months ago, I heard about these “Mini Vinyls” (really they’re micro vinyls) collectibles that “really works” on these micro record players.

When I first heard about them, I thought, based on their marketing, that it spins and play back a full song on their tiny vinyl grooves. Now that they’re out and in the market, I learned that they, in fact, do not work like real records. In fact, it won’t even playback the full song. You only get 30 second samples.

How it works, I believe there is a tiny hidden NFC chip in the tiny vinyl that the record player will then playback the sample, when activated.

There are two mini-vinyls companies – Zuru and MGA. Both competing in the same mini-vinyl market. Neither company’s vinyls are compatible, so you need to choose one or the other (or you can buy both if you have the money). You can only buy these records via blind boxes (or blind capsules or blind balls might be a better description), so it may be very hard to get a complete set, especially when some of these mini vinyls are “rare”.

I was going to buy a Miniverse Record Player to play around with for my Fallout Lego, but at the moment it’s sold out. I’m mentioning this because this product is extremely popular. It is the #1 selling product in dollshouse. If they can’t keep them in stock, buyers may turn to their competitor for their tiny vinyl fix. Or worst, they’ll buy the wrong product.

Anyway, the Miniverse will be back in stock around late August, but I’ll likely move on by then.

Miniverse

If I were to invest in one brand, it will probably be Miniverse by MGA, a Los Angeles company. The main reason is that there is a whole “miniverse” based on this vinyl release, including a $30 “Record Store” with Fender guitar. So, you can display your mini records, along with the Stratocaster guitar and tiny stickers. Their record player, which is sold separately for $22, comes with Beethoven’s “5th Symphony”, along with a table (where you can also store your mini vinyls). Each blind box is priced at $12.

Since the Miniverse will also be getting some Batman Comic Books in August 2026… it will look really cool sitting next or in their mini-vinyl crates! The micro-comic book thing is cool, I hope they reprint the entire comic – but it’s likely you only get a few tiny pages.

Anyway, as I previously mentioned above, this company is a victim of its own success. They are constantly sold out of their product… so it’s unlikely that I can buy their comic or vinyls in the future.

Mini Brands

The other micro vinyl company is under the umbrella of Mini Brands, made by Zuru, a Hong Kong company. They had a pre-order of their vinyls in April, with a release date of June 1, 2026.

The Mini Brands offers more songs: 45 songs, but you have to buy the record player separately for $20. The record player comes with ROSÉ and Bruno Mars’ “APT,” and that’s about it.

Tiny Vinyl

If you truly want a small vinyl that actually plays real music, there is a company called Tiny Vinyl that makes 3-inch vinyls. The size reminds me of those old 3-inch CD singles. The idea is not new, I remember getting a very small flexi vinyl that came free in some UK music magazine. Unfortunately, I don’t really live near a Target, which it seems most of the Tiny Vinyls are sold. Sure, you can order them online from Target, but that’s no fun.

The other thing that I’m not too keen on is their pricing. Each Tiny Vinyl is $15. For that you get two songs (Side A and Side B). I know it’s not the same thing, but the last CD (that came with 12 songs), I bought was $12 and it came autographed… so I feel the value is not quite there with $15 for two songs. Maybe, if I take an hour to drive to the nearest Target and I see the tiny vinyls for myself, I might change my mind.

Anyway, this month (July 2026), Tiny Vinyl announced three new products to their Tiny Vinyl line: a Tiny Vinyl Record Player ($49.99), a Tiny Vinyl Crate ($19.99), and Tiny Vinyl 2×2 Frame ($14.99).
