Three decades later, it’s still a Shame--Make that Shame, Shame in our case as we headed out not once, but twice to catch The Lemonheads on their It’s a Shame About Ray- 30th Anniversary Tour in Kansas City, MO at the Madrid Theatre and also the following date up north in Minneapolis, MN at First Avenue.
With the holiday season in full swing, this is likely the last busy live music week of the season (in terms of national touring bands), so find a show while you can. The weather is cooperating so far too, with temps swinging up from the 60s down to the 20s, but more constant cold and snow & ice will be more of a thing soon. Here’s what’s happening in the Kansas City metro December 5th-11th.
Minneapolis: December 7 to December 9: Pond, Son Little, The Lemonheads
Spirited Brooklyn rock band The Drums recently released "I Can't Pretend", the dreamy second single off their brand new LP Encyclopedia, slated to be released September 23rd on Minor Records. The single is the perfect farewell to summer with its shivery synth texture, chiming guitar and sighing chorus; it's the sonic equivalent of watching the sun setting in the distance as you walk along the beach with your May-September romance.
Unknown Mortal Orchestra's first headlining show in Minneapolis took place last night at the Cedar Cultural Center, according to singer Ruban Nielson. The Portland-based band previously played with Solid Gold for "Into the Black" (art gallery in Minneapolis) in June 2012, and a month later, returned to the city supporting Liars.
