White Hot Knife – Speakeasy

White Hot Knife are a five-piece band from Chicago, Illinois. They lists the Cure and New Order as influences, but their sound is more like the Killers (minus the keyboards) as people have pointed out.

When they play live, the drummer also incorporate an electronic drum machine. Although this sounds cool, it is not that effective because the sound is drowned by the loud guitars and vocals. Maybe they just had a bad sound night, who knows.

They have a six-song EP currently, and I liked their lead-in song, “Speakeasy”. If you listen to the lyrics, it looks like he is whining a lot, doesn’t it?

Well I didn’t ask to be born
in this mixed-up situation
This is all your fault,
you dragged me here
and I know, yes, I know
this would only end up bad

This is all your fault, you dragged me here.

LIVE

21 June – The Double Door, Chicago, IL
04 July – Morton Grove Days, Chicago, IL
07 July – Mojoe’s, Orland Park, IL
28 July – Cubby Bear, Chicago, IL

Basically the song described some kind of ‘terrible thing’ that the singer had to witness and he blamed his friend for dragging him out that one cool mid-Summer’s eve.

If you live in Illinois, you should try and catch them at one of their live shows, I’ve included the dates off their website.

Also, Alternative Press is going to give their debut EP a positive review for their July 2007 issue. Have you guys looked at AP lately ? I guess I must be behind the times, because I didn’t recognize 80% of the bands they feature in their main articles… but then again, I was never that hip 🙂

PS: Shock, shock, we have setup a myspace account (www.myspace.com/weheartmusik) and a Facebook Group as well as a Vox Group.  Also [thisisgood] featured Tetris Music on 6/18/2007.
