Girls like that don’t go for guys like us
Custard are another of those bands that were a staple in my formative years. Around long before I even knew decent music came out of Australia (except for Men at Work and Icehouse, of course). I think it could be considered that I jumped on the band wagon very late with these guys, possibly being influenced mostly by the older brother of a friend.

Just as I have a look at some information on the trusty internet I’m seeing early recordings that I never knew existed. I can also show you this, yes! another possibly drunken zine interview from the depths of my younger years.
Forming in the early 90’s in Brisbane, Queensland these guys were a regular on the touring and festival scene for millions of years. One highlight for me (that’s who we’re focusing on, after all) was a particular show at Newcastle University, early 1999, Custard headling with my favourite band on earth, the Super Furry Animals, coming in a close second on the bill.
Sadly, not long after that fateful day the guys ended up going there separate ways, but not before putting out several top notch albums: Buttercup/Bedford, Wahooti Fandango, Wisenheimer, We Have the Technology and Loverama (of which someone has nicked my copy).
The unmistakable voice of Dave McCormack; mostly cheesy and poppy type songs with not overly profound lyrics, but hey, it’s the melody that counts in my books!
I dont think i’d even light to try and and pick a song or even an album that I would consider to be my favourite, let alone the best.
What I can say is, that although it was a shame that Custard broke up, it has been a blessing in disguise with a range of various other projects being embarked upon by the ex-Custard boys.
The Titanics
The Polaroids
Silver Machine (people who remember the band Crow will probably love these guys)
i’m sure there’s more, feel free to hunt me down and give me a beating if you are angered by my lack of knowledge.
