I was one of the 1.5 million players out there that bought Blizzard’s Starcraft II. As much as I like playing strategy games, I have a few problems about this much anticipated game:

High requirements: When did these type of game require 2.6 GHz Pentium IV or 1.5 GB of ram ? Start cleaning out that harddrive, the game requires 12 GB of storage.

I set the game to run on low, but even on the bare minimal requirement, it takes ages to load up a map. We’re talking you might as well make dinner while you wait.

Save bug: For some reason, I finished two stages and the game reset back as if I hadn’t played them when I click on “continue”. Otherwise, I haven’t really notice any weird bug, with the exception that my SCV’s will get stuck building things (very annoying).

Internet connection required: For piracy issues, Blizzard requires you to log into their server (battle.net) to authenticate the game that you bought. If you’re not online, you can’t play your single-player campaign.

You know who doesn’t have to deal with this online-authentication crap ? People who pirate the game!!

Are these problems going to put me off on buying future Blizzard games ? Actually: YES, I’m not touching any game that requires me to be online play an offline game …. as much as that pains me because I was really looking forward to Diablo III.

I’m not the only one complaining about Blizzard’s DRM, take it from me: a lot of people are pretty upset about it.

On the brighter side, the story and CG movies are awesome, as to be expected.
