Night Moves

Local band Night Moves, ably taking over the opening spot from the previously announced Night Beds, was literally feeling the Blues.
For the duration of their 40 min set, the band member …
Here is the weekly guide of some Minneapolis live concerts and events from August 31 to September 6.

SUNDAY, AUGUST 31
TURF CLUB

Night Moves, Carroll, etc.

Did you know that the St Paul’s the Turf Club was remodeled? I believe they have expanded and added a restaurant area, so now you can dine and watch a concert. I am hoping they make the stage better or upgrade the sound….

Although this was listed as a Turf Club Grand Re-Opening, there was already a grand re-opening show on August 28th, which was described as “cleaner” and “better smelling”. Let’s just hope.

I suppose for the second grand re-opening Turf Club show is with Night Moves.

THURSDAY, SEPTEMBER 4

TURF CLUB

The Jayhawks

This was a surprise, The Jayhawks show at the new Turf Club is sold out, even at the higher-than-usual ticket price of $35… Still that’s a small price for some people to catch this band at a small, intimate setting.

Opening up the show is Rich Mattson and the Northstars.

NOTE: This is the first of three Jayhawks shows for September, the Turf Club is the warmup show, before their two big First Avenue show on September 5 and 6th.

Also, the Jayhawks are soliciting their fans to make up their ultimate setlist for the Turf Club show.

09/04/14 The Turf Club (with Rich Mattson)

09/05/14 First Avenue (with Two Harbors)

09/06/14 First Avenue (with Trapper Schoepp)

Look for the band to do a full 2014 Fall tour in support of their reissues of Sound of Lies, Smile and Rainy Day Music.

Also worth noting, that this upcoming tour will feature their 1997 all-star lineup of Gary Louris, Marc Perlman, Tim O’Reagan, Karen Grotberg and Kraig Johnson.

Garfunkel and Oates

FRIDAY, SEPTEMBER 5

VARSITY THEATER

Garfunkel and Oates

I haven’t checked, but I’m pretty sure this Varsity Theater show for comedy duo Garfunkel and Oates is sold out.

Hot off the heels of their comedy television show, which sort of reminds me of a girl version of Flight of the Conchords, the group is currently out on tour. While I still think G&O are still funny, I think their television show is seemingly all about sex, sex, sex…. and it’s not really funny.

Tour dates:

08/30/14 New York, NY Irving Plaza

09/05/14 Minneapolis, MN Varsity Theater

09/06/14 Chicago, IL House Of Blues

09/27/14 San Francisco, CA Cobb’s Comedy Club

10/04/14 Seattle, WA The Neptune

10/16/14 Los Angeles, CA The Avalon

10/18/14 Madison, WI Barrymore Theatre

11/14/14 Cincinnati, OH Bogart’s

11/15/14 Indianapolis, IN Egyptian Room

11/21/14 Tampa, FL David A. Straz Jr. Center

11/22/14 New Orleans, LA House Of Blues

12/06/14 Boston, MA Wilbur Theatre
