Public Access T.V.

UK buzz band Palma Violets is back on tour for their sophomore album Danger In the Club (Rough Trade), stopping the 7th Street Entry in Minneapolis on Memorial Day, May 25th.

Public Access T.V.

Opening up the show was New York's Public Access T.V., who blew us away with their songs about rock and roll when they opened up for Gang of Four earlier this March.

The band kicked off their 10 song set with "Middle Child", one of their earlier single, followed by various loud rock singles, such as "Monaco" and my favorite "In the Mirror".

I did get a chance to listen to their self-titled EP, which surprisingly wasn't as energetic as their live set (and many of these songs did not make it into their set). The EP is available digitally now, but fans of physical vinyl discs will have to wait until June 16th on Terrible Records.

Although attendance for Palma Violets wasn't as full as two years ago, hot off their debut 180 album, I still felt it was incredibly full – especially for the Memorial Holiday. Most fans were out of town, or just arriving back into town from their cabins.

The other thing to note is that Violets' fans are young and quite happy to moshing and danced throughout Violets' set (including the slow numbers!)
They have a very dedicated fanbase, and I'm convinced that when Violets return to Minneapolis, these same fans will be there in front.

Setlist

My favorite moment on their set is that they actually ended with a Bob Dylan song, "Death is Not the End" (not written on their setlist). This is a nice tribute to the folk singer, who lived in Duluth, Minnesota, for a time. The song may have gone over many of the young heads in attendance, but it was still a nice gesture from the band.

"Best of Friends" got Alexander "Chilli" Jesson singing and screaming lead vocals, letting regular singer/guitarist Samuel Fryer to rest his vocals.

They dedicated "Matador" to Public Access TV. "Danger In The Club" featured pitchman Harry â€˜Violentâ€™ on harmonica. Violent would later resurfaced for their encore finale, singing passionately with the band.
