Minnesota State Fair

The annual Minnesota State Fair is back, this year running August 22 to Labor Day, September 2nd. I won’t be listing every bands set to attend, but the major ones. Please note in addition to the concert ticket, you’ll also need to spend an entry fee

After skipping 2020, due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the Minnesota State Fair returns in 2021…. But re-dubbed as “The Great Get-Back Together”, a play off their catch-phrase “The Great Get-Together”.

As expected, due to the pandemic, attendance have been down… it’s quite evident by the crowd photos. If you didn’t like crowds, this was probably the best year to attend.

Masks were required for bus rides and any indoor attendance, but out of caution, it’s probably best to keep your mask on you at all time.

We attended the fair on its last day, Labor Day, which the fair named “Kids Day”… meaning that there will be discounts for kids under the age of 12 and there were more kids-friendly events.

Labor Day was also the day for an all-day celebration of Hmong culture and dance at Dan Patch Park.

There were plenty of free music from local bands, such as cover lover band Bootleg, rock musician Adam Daniel, Christian band Heart Song, Roots Country Rock band The Dollys, etc.

If music isn’t your thing, you can always catch comedy stand-ups, watch kids dance, watch dog training, get free swags from various companies, look at Blue Ribbon winners, arcades, rides, and, of course, all the fried food you can eat on a stick.

Food and drinks were a money sink, since they’re always two or three times the normal price… but where else are you going to get fried pickles or fried mac & cheese?

The Minnesota State Fair is back, and it’s more and less the same thing you would expect… except, perhaps less attendance. I’m hoping next year we will get more non-local musicians stopping by.
