Connor McLaren rounds out this tripe-rock bill. He is from Indiana and plays pysch-folk.
Some critics described McLaren as the “American Liam Gallagher, but friendlier.”

The Charleston based indie rock group Easy Honey is currently on their headlining tour… stopping by the 7th Street Entry, in Minneapolis, on Friday the 13th.

Connor McLaren (07 August 2023)

Opening the show was Indiana’s Connor McLaren. We previously saw Connor in August 2023 and said, “Connor McLaren opened up the early show with a solo, acoustic set. He is from Bloomington, Indiana and he drove directly from his home state to be at the show. A designated psych-folk artist, he describes his music as: “Bob Dylan doing a line of Oasis with a shot of Sublime.””

Like his previous appearance, the singer drove through the night to be at the 7th Street Entry. He’s normally with a full rock band, but with these 8-hour plus trip, he couldn’t afford to bring them along. Songs on his set included “Bullsh**”, “Tell Her I Said Hi”, “Lemonberry”, “Peas in a Pod” (new song), “Candy Rain”, and set closer “Cliché”.

According to McLaren, for the song “Lemonberry”, it was originally called “You Know”. But after consulting with Ben Kweller, he suggested they change the name. The name came to him when he saw it in a pot menu. It was the most expensive item, and he knew he had to try it… but it was sold out. So, you can say that the song is about wanting something, but it’s not available.

Next up was local group FènixDion. They were just in Madison, Wisconsin, with Easy Honey, so they’re happy to be home again. The trio, featuring Keston Wright, Atom Lee, and Mitchell Johnson, is joined on stage with drummer Sam Bramble.

Their set included “Mama Say”, “Baby Blue”, the creepy one “Green”, “Bo-Peep”, and finale “Breathe”.

Easy Honey closed out the night. Originally the band came from Sewanee, Tennessee, but currently they’re based in Charleston, South Carolina. They draw inspirations from bands like The Kinks, The Replacements, and Radiohead.

Looking over their setlist, they had a few songs from their self-titled debut album from 2018, but mixes in a lot of new songs, like the intro “Orbiter”, which is brand new.

They have two singers (both guitarists), Selby Austin and Darby McGlone, who takes lead vocals depending on the song. The rest of the band includes drummer Charlie Holt and bassist Daniel Comen.

The band recently released Ooooo EP and a mini-documentary on surfing.

The band writes, “F.U.B.A.R… The movie is sort of a love letter to our time as a touring band for the last year and change. We’ve gone through so many things and learned a lot about ourselves, and each other, and our friendship. This movie really captures all of that and shows where we are and what we want to say.”

Just four friends bonded together through touring, music, and surfing.
