Declan McKenna is touring in support of his third album, What Happened To The Beach?. The tour will stop in at First Avenue, on October 28, 2024. Declan has been enjoying a viral hit on TikTok with his cover of ABBA’s “Slipping Through My Fingers.”

We saw Vlad Holiday in Aug 2024, and noted that “He mentioned that he’ll be headlining the Turf Club, on November 3, 2024, so if you wanted to see him on a more intimate setting, there’s your chance.”

Unfortunately, since he’s agreed to tour with McKenna, it meant that logistically, he actually had to cancel his November 2024 headlining show: “First off, thanks for your support and for buying tickets to my headline show. I am excited to share that I’ll now be opening up for Declan McKenna on tour this month, but that means I need to cancel my Turf Club show on November 3. Good news is that I’ll be there even sooner! October 28 at @FirstAvenue in Minneapolis….I really hope you can make it to the new date.”

This is the best Halloween party in town: First Avenue’s Annual Halloween Party and Costume Contest. Seriously, some of the best costumes can be found at this party. Over $1,000 in cash prizes.

Several DJs are on the bill: DJ Sophia Eris, dj izzie p, Michael Grey, and DJ McShellen.

We saw Sophia Eris in July 2024 and noted, “Sophia Eris with friends Makr and Jaki Blue (which I thought I heard that she said was her sister). It sounds like the first part of Eris’ set was purely DJing and dancing… but then she switched it up with rapping over beats from Makr. Highlight of their set was when Jaki Blue took over the vocals duties to sing “Quicksand”, a song co-written by Jaki Blue & Sophia Eris with production from Makr.”

DIY Punk, Surf Rock, and Grunge band Mary Jam is headlining/closing out the night.

Queercore Surly Grrly (Medbh McNamara, Eloïse Boigenzahn, Lou Levy, and Peter Korhonen) is playing at 10pm. Expect them to play their forthcoming new single “Heroes”, available on Election Day, November 5 (Remember, remember the fifth of November).

We saw the band in June 2023 and said, “Opening the show was Surly Grrly (a band led by Medbh McNamara & Eloïse Boigenzahn), who wasn’t originally on the bill. We previously liked them with the Aquadolls in May 2023, describing them as “very Bikini Kill”. They’ve changed up their setlist a bit (as well as hiring a new bassist Lou Levy) since we last saw them, starting with “I Had Sex with a Girl”, a song that they’ve previously mentioned that most guys who come up to them said they’ve had the very same experience.”

TOMBOYY and Selfish Teammate also on the bill.

With all Halloween shows, expect everyone involved to be dressed up in costumes!

Canadian band Tokyo Police Club (David Monks, Graham Wright, Josh Hook, Greg Alsop) is on their final tour. If you’ve never seen this dance/indie rock band, then this is your final chance! They are playing the Varsity Theater on November 1st, 2024.

We last saw TPC in Oct 2021 and noted, “Canadian quartet Tokyo Police Club just stopped by the 7th Street Entry in celebration of their 10th Anniversary of CHAMP. This is the third time the band have tried for this tour, having twice having to delay their Champ 10 tour, due to the pandemic.”

Born Ruffians is normally the opening band, but for whatever reasons, they are not playing at the Varsity Theater on November 1st.

New York quartet Shower Curtain fronted by Brazilian-American artist Victoria Winter (vocals/guitar), alongside Ethan Williams (guitar/vocals), Sean Terrell (drums), and Cody Hudgins (bass), is touring in support of their debut album words from wishing well (Angel Tapes/Fire Talk Records).
