rosie
with Jillian Rae, bathtub cig and Bryn Battani
at 7th St Entry

first-avenue.com

Minneapolis’ rosie is headlining the 7th St Entry, in Minneapolis, on January 8, 2025.

Please note that this is a different artist than the New York singer-songwriter, ROSIE, who we saw in June 2023 and just recently released What Scares Me the Most on November 1st via Arista Records.

Jillian Rae, bathtub cig, and Bryn Battani to open.

We saw Bryn Battani in Aug 2024 and wrote, “Bryn Battani said she is a recent transplant from Texas, and that certainly they don’t have these kind of events in Austin. She was also the only artist to switch over to keys, from acoustic guitar.”

Rosie writes:

09 Jan 2025 Thursday
Farewell Milwaukee
with A Piano In Every Home and Big Lake
at Turf Club

first-avenue.com

Local band Farewell Milwaukee is headlining the Turf Club, in St Paul, on January 9, 2025.

We saw Farewell Milwaukee in Mar 2009 and wrote, “I like to begin reviews with a clever anecdote to draw in my readers. It’s fun for everyone, but especially fun for me because I consistently amuse myself. When Farewell Milwaukee played the Fine Line, I knew singer Ben Lubeck looked really familiar; not in the sense that I had stalked him on Facebook or met him IRL (In Real Life) or even that I’d seen the band perform before (I had). The reason why he looked familiar is because he is Shaggy from Scooby-Doo. I kid you not, readers; Ben Lubeck is tall, lanky, shaggy-haired Shags. The resemblance is uncanny, although I sincerely hope that he doesn’t take offense by this comment (I don’t know why he would since Shaggy drove an amazing green van AND solved mind-boggling mysteries).”

A Piano In Every Home and Big Lake to open.

Farewell Milwaukee writes:

We have a special show announcement to make today! We will be playing The Turf Club on Thursday January, 9th. Joining us will be A Piano In Every Home, and Big Lake. Tickets are on Sale now.

A special thank you to Molly Nee for designing The Cat Bat show poster! The Cat Bat has become a beacon of light for the band. Thanks to Danger Dave for introducing us to its power on a bar napkin many moons ago. May it guide you to St. Paul in early January for a fun night of music!

11 Jan 2025 Saturday
BER
with Chutes
at First Avenue

first-avenue.com

Local musician Ber is headlining First Avenue on January 11, 2025.

We saw Ber in Aug 2024 and wrote, “Highlight of her set was her cover of Gotye’s “Somebody That I Used to Know.” The original song was somewhat of a duet, the boy parts sung by Goyte, while the girl part was by Kimbra. The first part of the song, you only hear the perspective of Goyte… it isn’t until Kimbra comes in, do you hear the story from her perspective. It’s really a sad and emotional song, and was faithfully covered by Ber… except she sings both parts.”

Chutes to open.

Ber writes:

11 Jan 2025 Saturday
Big Head Todd and the Monsters
with Glen Phillips (of Toad the Wet Sprocket)
at Palace Theatre

first-avenue.com

Big Head Todd and the Monsters is on their 40th Anniversary Tour, stopping by Palace Theatre on January 11, 2025.

Please note there is a strict 6 ticket limit. Any attempt to exceed the ticket limit of 6 per customer or household, or to game the system in any way, will result in cancellation of orders without notice. There is a transfer delay for all tickets up to ONE MONTH prior to show.

We saw Big Head Todd at the Palace Theatre in Jan 2018 and said, “Todd Park Mohr and band (Brian Nevin– drums; Rob Squires– bass; Jeremy Lawton– keys / pedal steel) have been a band for thirty-two years now and made their new album, New World Arisin’ (on the band’s own Big Records) “to show we still could” and Big Head Todd and the Monsters still showed their formidable live chops with a two-hour set of the band’s own unique blend of Colorado rock, blues, and soul. In front of a trippingly-illustrated backdrop and amongst simple but effective lighting, the foursome took to the stage beginning with a cut from one of Mohr’s biggest guitar heroes, Jimi Hendrix. BHTM mostly let the music do the talking, eager not only to play songs from the new album, but also to work in as many crowd favorites in, as possible too.”

Glen Phillips (of Toad the Wet Sprocket) to open.
