Brett Newski
with The Cold Casuals, Make & the Makeouts
at Zhora Darling

zhoradarling.com

Brett Newski (billed as Brett Newski and the Bad Inventions, is back in the Twin Cities. He’ll be headlining Zhora Darling, in support of his latest album ameriCONa Pt. 1: Educate Freeloaders to Buy Art (due out May 2 on Nomad Union).

We saw Newski in July 2016 and said, “Brett Newski opened up the show with his improv-ish songs. Very fun guy, really witty. Highlight of his set was getting an audience member to help play harmonica during ‘In Between Exits’. He ended his brief 30-min set with ‘D.I.Y.’… and newfound fans in the front started to sing along to his catchy lyrics, “I’m D.I.Y., I’m punk as f***. Don’t need your money, I don’t want your love.” Newski also tend to swap out lyrics to make his song more personal and timely. For example, he name dropped The Replacements in the mixtape lyrics on ‘D.I.Y.’”

Lucius
with Victoria Canal
at Palace Theatre

first-avenue.com

Lucius is currently on a “The Gold Rush” Tour. I got a chance to listen to the new single, I think it’s going to be a hit for the band.

Of course, we were one of the first people to see Lucius at their first appearance in Minneapolis on 24 Oct 2013 when they were touring for Wildewoman: “Turnout to the Lucius show was terrific, for a Thursday night. It tells me that the next time the New York band come back around, that they’re going to play a bigger venue, especially if they continue with their catchy 60s girl-group songs. Led by the two girl singers, Jess Wolfe & Holly Laessig, who dressed alike, look alike, and sings alike. They made it clear that they were extremely grateful to be in Minneapolis for the first time (although one of their guitarists said he has family here and would visit every Summer when he was younger). As you can see from their setlist, the band played every song known to them. So if you’ve been listening to their EP and album Wildewoman, you will have a fantastic time.”
