On the 20th anniversary of Titan Quest, game publisher THQ Nordic and game developer Grimlore Games will be releasing the sequel Titan Quest II in 2026.
As a surprise and gift to their fans, Titan Quest II was released to early access for $24. Understandably, this is only Act I of the game (about six hours of content), but buying into early access will eventually unlock the other acts, once the game will finally be released in third quarter of 2026. From my understanding, every three months, the game will be updated with new content.
Right now, the first Act is actually pretty beefy, and although most people blew through the game in no time, it’s taking me much longer to get through, because the game is really unstable and crashes all the time. It’s a demo or beta software, so again, it’s understandable that there are still bugs. The game also struggles to run at ultra settings (which is how the game auto-detected my computer setup). I had to tone it down to high settings just to get the game to run smoothly. I don’t blame game, but rather the Epic Game engine. The (new) game engine may look amazing, but it does have performance issues. I’ve seen it with recent re-make of Oblivion, which suffers from the same bad performance using the same game engine.
If you’re not familiar with the original Titan Quest, it’s basically a Diablo-knockoff… but with a Greek setting. You play a Spartan warrior, fighting various Greek gods. At first, I didn’t really enjoy the original game. I bought it in 2006, when it was released, and it was slow-going. I bought the expansion Titan Quest: Immortal Throne, and I beat it and forgotten about it, until years later when they released Titan Quest Anniversary in 2016. The new expansion added new enemies and new weapon types, and I started playing the game again on GOG. In fact, I clocked in about 44 hours in the re-release!
I’ve been pretty happy with the game, despite the constant game crashing. How I play these types of games is that my first play-through I’m still figuring out things and game mechanics. So, the first play is going to be bad. My second character is always going to be the better game. My second play I made an effective explosion volley arrow build that easily beat the first chapter.
At the moment, I’m on my third character (a poison build). Maybe I’ll switch it up to something else. For me, it was worth the $24 that I spent on the game. By the time the game is out of Early Access, I’ll be an expert in the game!
According to the game developer, the final version of the game will cost $50, with no microtransactions. They also stressed that they will plan to release DLCs and expansion packs… I am assuming the DLC will be a paid download. If they shoot for $10 DLC, I’ll be onboard and pay, if I’m still interested in the game.
