Crime Time Comedy
Naked Gun and Nobody 2
If you didn’t know, Neeson stars as Frank Drebin Jr, the son of Frank Drebin (played by the late, great Leslie Nielsen), and Jr is just as clueless as his dad. Neeson is a natural in the role… and it’s because he delivers all the lines in deadpan seriousness, and it works in this comedy. You need a serious, gruff, seasoned detective in this comedy. Some jokes are really bad, but I laughed anyway, because it’s just so stupid.
The plot is basically the same as the original Kingsman: The Secret Service. There is some sort of “Plot Device” that when activate will cause everyone to go crazy and murder each other.
The film is pretty good, if not seemingly too long. There is a whole segment which Neeson and Pamela Anderson goes in a cabin and romance and consult a demonic book and bringing to life a snowman. I don’t know, I would have cut that whole thing, it added nothing to the plot.
I hope the movie does well, I am looking forward to the sequel.
In the first film, he’s retired from that life… but a series of events forced him back, like the John Wick series. Turns out, you don’t want to mess with this “nobody.”
For Nobody 2, he takes his family on vacation… only nothing goes right and he has kick butt once again. The action is okay, and there’s plenty of fisticuffs, but I don’t think it’s done that well. You know I like my Kung Fu films, so I like a certain kind of exciting action. It’s nothing memorable, and I really, really don’t think Odenkirk should be an action star… I think he works better as a comedian or something like that.
I also don’t like the idea that his son inherits Nobody’s skills. C’mon, I don’t want to see a father/son fighting team, keep it just to a solo Nobody. In fact, I don’t care much for his family either! All except his black Ninja brother, of course.
Action fans, who don’t mind a little comedy mixed in, may like this film, but for most people, I think they can skip this one.
