I’ve been listening to the excellent Phantasmagoria album from Ani Glass. The album comes out September 26, 2025.

The Cardiff-based electronic pop musician, producer and artist, was pitched to me as being part of The Pipettes… which was the main reason why I was interested in hearing more. I’ve seen the Pipettes in 2007, which was before Ani Glass joined the group (she was part of the second generation of the Pipettes).

Still, if you enjoy electronic pop and melodic vocals, give her a try. Her music reminds me of Annie, with lots of synth and beats. Some songs are in Welsh, but it doesn’t really matter when the songs are so catchy… you might find yourself making up strange nonsensical lyrics.

Minneapolis rock pioneer Cindy Lawson (who played alongside The Replacements and Soul Asylum) will be releasing “The Reckoning” tomorrow (September 19), on Hygh Tension Records (TLG)/Virgin Records.

To celebrate and promote the new album, Lawson will be playing a few Midwest shows, starting with a release gig at Grumpy’s Northeast (in Minneapolis) on Friday.

We’ve seen Lawson a few times, with the most recent in March 2025: “Last, but definitely not least, Cindy Lawson and band came to the stage. Founder of the 80’s band The Clams, Lawson stepped away from performing in the late 90’s. She’s back at it and has quickly become a staple again in the Twin Cities’ music scene. The quintet is guitar heavy, with only drums to contrast. Lawson’s vocals are the calling card here, and they are pure rock & roll. We routinely got three vocalists, which have a nice layering effect. Girlfriend put all those guitars to work, but also got Lawson on tambourine for the first time. After a little bit of talking with the crowd, they jumped back on with Postcard, with Lawson working the top of her vocal range.”
