BALTIMORE COMIC CON at Baltimore Convention Center (2025-10-17, 18,19)

The Baltimore Comic-Con is a comic book-centric fan convention held in the fall of every year since 2000. The show is a creators’ favorite and features marquee writers and artists both past and present, a handful of media guests, publishers, and hundreds of vendor booths offering genre-related items including new and back-issue comic books, pop culture collectibles, toys, original art, and so much more.

Day Three of the show was a shorter day and more relaxed than the previous day, with crowds down from Saturday and creators wrapping up their sketch lists and final signings.

There were a few deals on the sales floor, as we’re towards the end of the Con season and it was better to some to mark down, than haul back, so we saw a few “Buy1Get1” and “Take 50% Off” offers that weren’t there the previous days, and even one large dealer near the talent, with “2/3 off original price” signing.

The adult cosplay contest (see its own separate post) and the after-hours Ringo Awards happened the previous day, so events and panels weren’t as active as on Saturday.

We finally completed our run of Avengers, bought several Silver Age books to fill gaps in our collection, and bought a few signed graphic novels from the creators, for holiday gifts. A sometimes tiring, but very fun weekend was coming to an end.

Former DC Comics editor Barbara Friedlander was the first woman to create a character for DC: Scooter, star of the teen humor/romance series Swing with Scooter, which she wrote for artist Joe Orlando. Friedlander spoke of her career as a comics romance editor and more in a panel moderated by Bob Greenberger.

Acclaimed UK writer/ artist Alan Davis is renowned for his runs on numerous comics from Captain Britain to Batman and the Outsiders, from Excalibur to Killraven, and almost every character at Marvel and Dc Comics. At this panel, Davis explained how he approaches his work, told stories of his upbringing, and mentioned his affection for projects like Justice League: The Nail.

Multiple Harvey and Eisner Award-winning writer Mark Waid has been the writer behind series including DC Comics’ The Flash, Kingdom Come, JLA: Year One, and Superman: Birthright; Marvel Comics’ Fantastic Four, Amazing Spider Man, and Daredevil; BOOM! Studios’ Incorruptible and Irredeemable, and much more. He’s written almost every book and is still putting out solid scripts mostly for DC and remains a vocal supporter for the genre and art form (, plus, those shirts!).

Sketch-ups are always fun and a little competitive as your favorite artists draw requests live. The audience members provided drawing prompts for artists including Trish Forstner (My Little Pony, Stray Dogs), Adriana Melo (Fantastic Four, Wonder Girl, Superman), Jason Metcalf (Eternal Descent, Wrath of the Titans), Mog Park (Game of Thrones, Snow Paw, Ruxy Vampire), and Afua Richardson (Black Panther: World of Wakanda, The Wild Storm) to draw their vision in a short amount of time.

Writer, trumpeter, and current US Army Master Sargeant Phillip Kennedy Johnson is best known for his acclaimed work on DC’s Superman, Action Comics, and Green Lantern: War Journal, and Marvel’s Alien series and his current run on The Incredible Hulk. He has also written Aquaman, Captain America, and his creator-owned series The Fellspyre Chronicles and Crocodile Black.

The animated adventures of everyone’s favorite mutant heroes (X-Men Animated) are brought to life by a group of talented voice actors and this spotlight panel with Alyson Court (Jubilee), Cal Dodd (Wolverine), Adrian Hough (Nightcrawler), and Lenore Zann (Rogue) had them speaking about their iconic roles, preserving the legacy of the characters, and what parts of their own personalities, they bring to the roles.
