Caroline Smith, under her stagename Your Smith, will be headlining First Avenue, in Minneapolis, to promote her The Rub album. The album came out in September, via Nettwerk. She had a tour and a listening party at her Howard’s Bar in September.
We’ve seen Caroline Smith a few times, but my personal favorite was in Sep 2013: “Then, earlier in June 2013 we had a preview of her R&B and soul music from Half About Being A Woman. As expected, the majority of her set is from the new record, Half About Being A Woman, including the intro song, “Magazine”, “All That I Know Is (I’m Your Baby)” and the title track. The new songs sounded great, particularly with the two dedicated backup singers who added a retro soul sound. I think if you like old 60s soul with some rhythm and blues, you’re going to find a lot to love on Half About Being A Woman (out October 8th on United Interests). Caroline Smith will be taking the full band and backup singers on the road this October, so check them out if they are coming to your town.”
Beemer to open.
Sad singer/songwriter Billie Marten is returning to Minneapolis, playing the Fine Line, on December 11, 2025, in support of her new album Dog Eared (Fiction Records). This is her first MN winter show, so we’ll see how she likes it.
We saw Billie Marten in June 2023 and wrote, “Billie Marten is a woman in love, she asks “Anyone in love?” Every note, every words, there is a hint of longing. From what I’ve gathered, listening to her talk, her love (Will Taylor of Flyte) was very far away. Of course, the longing and sadness could have something to do with her severe seasonal affective disorder (SAD). Billie Marten has been writing music since she was 12, becoming famous on YouTube. At 15, she released her first EP, and a second EP a year later. Eventually, the BBC nominated her for the Sound of 2016 award.”
Núria Graham to open.

Minnesota’s favorite The Jayhawks is doing a double night residency at the Fitzgerald Theater, in St Paul, on December 12 and 13, 2025.
We saw The Jayhawks in Dec 2018 and wrote, “Since reuniting in 2014 with their 1997-era line up (Gary Louris; Marc Perlman; Karen Grotberg; Tim O’Reagan; John Jackson) The Jayhawks have shown little signs of slowing down, releasing another record of new music this year, Back Roads and Abandoned Motels (Legacy Recordings), a collection of two new songs alongside contributions songwriter Gary Louris wrote for other outside projects. With thirty-five years of material to draw from, the band’s two-hour fifteen-minute set started on a classic upswing with 2000’s ‘I’m Gonna Make you Love Me’ then dove back to the 1989 Blue Earth album for deep cut, ‘Ain’t No End’, before jumping back ahead twenty-five years to 2016’s ‘Quiet Corners & Empty Spaces’.”
Robyn Hitchcock to open. His new album 1967: Vacations In The Past is an acoustic musical companion to his critically acclaimed new memoir, 1967: How I Got There and Why I Never Left (Akashic Books).
If your band is coming to the Minneapolis/St Paul area, please email details to vu@weheartmusic.com with a good lead time. Thank you.
