Two-time Grammy-winning band Old Crow Medicine Show released their first-ever holiday album OCMS XMAS, out today on Hartland Records.

The album features 11 original Christmas song, along with two covers, including “Holly Jolly Christmas”… which is frontman Ketch Secor’s favorite Christmas song: “Burl Ive’s woulda liked OCMS. I think we’re cut of the same material. Both a little out of left field but happy to come to the plate swinging. This is my favorite classic Christmas song.”

Counting Down To Christmas is the debut holiday single by Shropshire duo Slow Owls (Alfie Edwards and Jim Williams).

Alfie Edwards is known for being the frontman with The Bartells, while Welsh producer and multi-instrumentalist Jim Williams is known as the songwriter and frontman for Additional Moog. The two met when Williams was asked to produce one of the tracks on a Bartells album, and they liked working together so much that Slow Owls was born. Along with Chester drummer Mark Hooper, Los Angeles saxophonist Ron Dziubla, they produced “Counting Down to Christmas”. Now the pair are busy working on new material for 2026.

Trivia: Slow owls, especially the Barn Owl, are known for their quiet, drifting flight, achieved with large wings for their light bodies, allowing them to hover and hear prey below.

Alex Bird & The Jazz Mavericks

Acclaimed Canadian vocalist and songwriter Alex Bird, together with his band The Jazz Mavericks, released their holiday album Another Christmas Day in November 2024. The album was recorded live off the floor in Toronto at Canterbury Music Company, and features 10 original songs.

Bird noted, “We wanted to create a holiday record that honors tradition but also brings something new to the table. Recording live, without headphones, allowed us to truly listen to one another in the room. It brought out the honesty and magic that the music and audience deserves.”
