Arctic Monkeys and Rural Alberta Advantage at First Ave and 7th Street (9/25/09)

Unbelievable - how on earth did two of the hottest tickets in town, Arctic Monkeys and The Rural Alberta Advantage, came into town and basically played next door to each other at First Avenue and 7th Street Entry? For those outside of Minneapolis, First Ave and 7th Street are basically one big building. The mainfloor (First Ave) is definitely much larger than 7th Street, which is pretty much like a closet. So with some strategy, I was able to catch four bands last night at both sold-out shows, weaving in and out of bodies and having a pretty good time about it too.

Shonen Knife (少年ナイフ)

I fell in love with Shonen Knife in the early 90s, with Let's Knife. And although my first (and favorite) Knife song is "Riding the Rocket", the lyrics may sound outdated due to the fact that Pluto was de-planetized: "Riding the rocket, I wanna go to Pluto.". They were further popularized when the band was asked to open up for Nirvana (who was supernova-ing with Nevermind).

Tori Amos – Abnormally Attracted to Sin

Tori Amos needs no introduction, her latest album, Abnormally Attracted to Sin, out now on Universal Repblic Records on May 18th. I was originally offered to listen to the album via a software called Play MPE, which I had absolutely no interest in installing. Maybe it's not true, but my perception of these installation is that they track everything you do through their music: what tracks you listen to, how many times you listen to it, when you fast-forward it, (the same sort of thing is done via lastfm). Anyway, it was just easier to just go and pick up the album at the store. Luckily, Target carried the deluxe edition.
