Canada

Canada[a] is a country in North America. Its ten provinces and three territories extend from the Atlantic Ocean to the Pacific Ocean and northward into the Arctic Ocean, making it the second-largest country by total area, with the longest coastline of any country. Its border with the United States is the longest international land border. The country is characterized by a wide range of both meteorologic and geological regions. With a population of over 41 million, it has widely varying population densities, with the majority residing in its urban areas and large areas being sparsely populated. Its capital is Ottawa and its three largest metropolitan areas are Toronto, Montreal, and Vancouver.

W♥M115: God Help the Girl

I thought I'd drop this off: I've previously heard the single "Come Monday Night" by God Help the Girl, but never really got around to picking up the actual album - that is until a few months ago - when I was in Canada. I saw they were selling the album for $1.99. No sale, no clearance, that was the regular price. I couldn't believe it, I picked up all the copies they had in the store.

W♥M111: NXNE

NXNE is coming, June 13-19, 2011, in Toronto, Canada. I am flying in on the 12th, and I guess will be doing touristy things in the city. If you want to hang out, send me a note. The music portion, as far as looking at the schedule, doesn't actually start until Wednesday, the 15th. Which means, I have a lot of time to kill, perhaps I'll attend some of the movies that NXNE has to offer (I am probably going to try and make it to "Upside Down – The Creation Records Story", a documentary about Creation Records). I have gone on record and stated that I think Alan McGee is a genius.

Jazz Note #11 – Find a Groove

“If you make a mistake, don’t stop.  Make it part of what you are playing.” I think of this quote by Oscar Peterson every time I hear one of his songs.  He doesn’t so much play the piano as propel it.  In the middle of a solo, every key is under his domain as he deftly dashes the ebony and ivory with contradictory urgency and ease.  Even if Peterson made a mistake, you may never hear it.
