Good Mourning Sunshine (2026)
Foster The People
Indie pop rock band Foster the People have announced their “Good Mourning Sunshine” North American 2026 Tour, with support from Goth Babe and The Beaches on select dates.
We saw Foster the People in August 2014 and wrote, “Foster was at center, dressed in a fitted black leather jacket, black pants, penny loafers (no socks) and an odd t-shirt from Berlin of a Wall painting of USSR’s Brezhnev kissing then-East German leader Honecker. The other band members were spread about the stage, often staying in their same corners, but occasionally converging near Pontius’ drum kit, which also had keyboards and other instruments in the immediate area. Foster didn’t address the crowd for the first several songs; instead letting the music do the talking, which was more than all right with this mostly-younger crowd, who were very excited to be there (with the exception of a Jeff “Fast Times at Ridgemont High” Spicoli look/sound-a-like in a Summer Set shirt near me, who was too enamored by his own loud voice). Foster impressed, moving about the stage and switching instruments almost every couple of songs.”

Fear of the Fear by Great Lakes (Aug 21, 2026)
Great Lakes
Happy Happy Birthday to Me (HHBTM) released Great Lakes’ new single “Why Did My Love Go Away”, taken from the forthcoming Fear of the Fear (to be released on August 21, 2026).
Ben (Great Lakes) writes:
Fear of the Fear is the 9th album by Great Lakes, my long-running band and recording project. I think of it as my Memphis Record, since the bulk of it was written and recorded there. Like 2022’s Contenders, Fear of the Fear was mixed by Luis Leal. In fact, while thematically it is very different, aesthetically it could almost be considered Contenders II, even though 2025’s Don’t Swim Too Close came out in between. It features two musicians I’ve been working with for nearly 20 years, drummer Kevin Shea and vocalist Suzanne Nienaber. It also benefits from the contributions of two of my favorite go-to multi-instrumentalists, David Gould and Petter Folkedal. Some talented Memphis-based musicians grace the record, as well, including Leah Keys, Andrew Geraci, Seth Moody, and John Whittemoore. Finally, my old friends Kyle Forester and Steve Silverstein each play on a few songs.

Fear of the Fear is a collection of songs mostly about the death of my close friend, Ryan Trammel. As such, it deals thematically with loss and grief. A very personal album, it touches on feelings of anxiety, brokenness, and the role of the subconscious in our lives–be it subconscious memory or subconscious knowledge/wisdom (“there is a truth we have known without knowing it” is how I put it in the album opener). This is an idea I find especially potent. Maria Montessori wrote that as babies we are as smart as we are ever going to be. When I read that in one of her books, it immediately felt self-evident to me. As we age, of course we all also come to realize, and most of us all too well, that wisdom and knowledge are wholly different from intelligence. That’s another theme of the record: “you don’t get smarter with age” is how I put it in one song.

The photo on the cover is one I took in 2001 of an illegal Israeli settlement under construction in Beit Jalal in the West Bank, Palestine. The image seemed to me to be appropriate to the overarching theme of these songs.

Icelandic rock band Kaleo recently shared their official music video for “Still No Good”, a bluesier version of “No Good”, taken from A/B album. Their song, along with “All The Pretty Girls” and “Way Down We Go” got 4 billion streams.

Things Can Only Get Better (2026)
Howard Jones
New Wave icon Howard Jones curates his feel-good 80s event of the summer, “Things Can Only Get Better” North American tour. The tour will feature himself, as well as all your favorite 80s group Wang Chung, The English Beat and Modern English with host SiriusXM’s Richard Blade (famous KROQ DJ).
Of the upcoming tour, Howard Jones commented:
I dreamed of curating a tour with my favourite bands that could bring some positivity in our troubled times. I’m thrilled that this is actually happening this summer with the Things Can Only Get Better Tour. Joining me are my friends Wang Chung, The English Beat, Modern English, and Richard Blade. I’m so excited to be touring with these amazing talents. Our aim is to bring some joy with the banging pop anthems that we all know and love. “Things Can Only Get Better” is a message of hope for a future that we can create, when we stand up for the world we want to live in. Can’t wait to see you this summer!
This upcoming “Better” tour will feature all the bands playing a full set – unlike the previous 80s tour, in Aug 2017: “The amazing Retro Futura tour just stopped by the State Theatre last week (August 17th). If you’re a fan of 80s pop/rock bands, you love all of these bands. Sure, some people consider them one-hit wonders, but who cares, they’re still great songs. Nothing can change that. Unfortunately, with six bands on the bill and a limited time, all of the bands had about a 15-20 minute set, with the exception of headliner Howard Jones having about a 55-min set. With a very short set, that meant that every opening band had about three or four songs. That’s just fine with the audience, as they wanted to hear the big hit songs and weren’t interested in hearing the obscure songs.”
