The Darkness, the bombastic, longtime East Suffolk, UK band had returned to downtown Kansas City at The Truman to help commemorate the 20th Anniversary of their globally successful debut album, Permission to Land, and had as usual, amazed the crowd with a solid set and were about to play their biggest hit, “I Believe in a Thing Called Love” as a high point, when singer Justin Hawkins made the plea.
Prost! October, Rocktober, and Oktoberfest celebrations seem to be in full swing, and while it’s been unseasonably warm, things are soon to change and jacket weather is coming. Plenty to keep you busy on the first full weekend of the month, in terms of live music. Let’s take look at the Kansas City / Lawrence KS/ Topeka KS metro musical happenings for the upcoming week, from October 9th-12th.
Between the backlog of postponed dates and bands feeling safe enough to head back on the road, there are several nights this coming week that you will want to be in two (or more) places at once; and instead, will have to pick the show you want to see the most. Here’s what’s happening in the Kansas City/Lawrence area for the Final WEEK of MARCH
The boys are back in town... The Darkness just rocked the Varsity Theater in Minneapolis last night.
Here are some shows taking place in the Minneapolis/St Paul area from October 18 to October 19, 2015: He Is Legend, Teen Daze, Youth Lagoon
British glam rockers The Darkness is back! The band formed in 2000 and by 2006 had called it quit. Of course, they couldn't stay away - by 2012, they had reformed (which we mentioned the reunion tour). Britain's rising new glam/rock band The Struts are taking on the US with their current tour promoting their album Everybody Wants. Their hit single "Could Have Been Me" is currently on the top 5 of Billboard's Alternative charts, and the self-proclaimed "glamorous indie" band has been racking up Best New Artists awards consistently for the past year. Lead singer Luke Spiller is a sight to behold, strutting around onstage like he was born to be there (hence where their manager thought of their band name). They do a killer cover of Lorde's Royals, which we hope to hear when we cover their show at the Troubadour in Los Angeles this Wednesday, October 14th.
The Darkness first came on the scene with their debut 2003 album, Permission to Land, and quickly gained this reputation for putting on some amazing elaborate live stage shows. There was also a lot of backlashes for the makeup and ridiculousness of it all, but I guess you have to take the good with the bad.
