The Shake are from New York and they released one album in 2006 called Kick It. The album clocks in at just 27 minutes, so it was a really quick-listen for me.
These guys are old high school buddies who formed the band in the Summer of 2005. Pretty soon, they found themselves immersed in the whole NYC Indie scene.
Kick It was featured in many publications and major websites, including Magnet Magazine and All Music, so I have a feeling that it’ll just be a matter of time before they become the next Strokes or something.
Although all the signs are pointing to “Manic Boogie” as the Shake song (we’ll get to that later), I prefer “Stop Fighting” as my song pick. I like hearing the pianos keys in this song. The song does kind of lose direction in the middle, but it comes back on the tracks quickly.
“Manic Boogie” is the song that the band liked to represent themselves (you can download the song on their myspace) and they recently unveiled their video last October:
So, I thought I’d end the article with something fun.
If you look at their list of influences, you’ll noticed that a large number of bands are from the UK (particularly of the Rock genre). But sometime you’ll hear songs that may sound too similar to other songs.
Example, the song “Let Me Take You Far Away” (which you can also download on their myspace) sounds like “Half the World Away” by Oasis. Someone should do a mashup called “Let Me Take You Half the World Away”, that would be pretty funny.
