Sharkmuffin and their pals Ex-Girlfriends are currently touring a post-SXSW tour… stopping by
The Reverie Cafe + Bar in Minneapolis on Tuesday, March 21st. This is a small café at the start of “Eat Street” on Nicollet Avenue in Minneapolis and also hosts local art galleries and provide food and drinks.

Octopede

Octopede

Local duo Octopede opened up the event, with a very, very, very brief ten minute set. The band may have been a fill-in for Ripper, who had to cancel their appearance due to a family emergency. That left the other local band Murf to close out the four-band lineup.

Ex-Girlfriends

Ex-Girlfriends

Next was Ex-Girlfriends (not to be confused with the film or the 90s band Ex-Girlfriend). The “less than one year old” band consists of all girls (Tarra, Heather, Christine, and Monika), with the exception of their male drummer.

With only an EP out You’re Next and a single ‘Mfa’, the band actually exhausted all their songs, including the title track ‘You’re Next’, and started taking requests from the audience at the end of their set.

The band had a lot of energy and sounded like 90s riot grrrl, so if that’s your thing, this should be your new favorite band. In fact, at the Minneapolis show, they sold out their last CD at the merch table.

Sharkmuffin played next. The first thing you’ll notice is that their singer Tarra Thiessen is also in Ex-Girlfriends. Rounding out the rest of the band was Natalie Kirch on bass/vocals, Drew Adler on drums, and Chris Nunez on guitar.

As expected with a band with a debut record, the band played plenty of tracks from Chartreuse (State Capital/Little Dickman Records)… including ‚ÄòFirst Date‚Äô, which Tarra described as a song written about Tinder.

Sharkmuffin and Ex-Girlfriends continues their tour.
