POPTONE
+ Automatic, BNLX, DJ Jake Rudh (Transmission)
First Avenue
Wed 06/20/2018 (7pm/$20)
first-avenue.com
Poptone is the new project from Daniel Ash and Kevin Haskins – both founders of Bauhaus, Tones On Tail and Love and Rockets. It should also be noted that Kevin’s daughter, Diva Dompé, is also in the band as bassist.
We caught the band in July 2017, before their debut album, and the group played a selection of Tones On Tail and Love & Rockets songs: “…the newly formed band, decidedly play a bit of a retrospective setlist, featuring plenty of Tones on Tail songs, a bit of Love & Rockets songs, and throwing in a few Daniel Ash solo songs.”
Now that their record is here courtesy of Cleopatra Records, expect to hear some new and original Poptone songs… but expect at least a couple of classic Love & Rocket and Bauhaus songs on their upcoming set.
Los Angeles’ Automatic and local BNLX, with DJ Jake Rudh (from Transmission) to open.

This wasn’t on my preview calendar, but I like these guys, so I’m adding them to this listing. The show wasn’t originally on the group’s original U.S. schedule.
The English rockers The Horrors is touring the U.S. in support of their latest V album (Wolf Tone label/Caroline International).
It’s kind of rare to see these guys in the states, so if you live in the area, you should check them out. It may be another seven years before they come back (the last time the band was in town was 24 September 2011 at the now-defunct Triple Rock Social Club).
