Australian singer Meg Mac has released her new EP Live at Golden Retriever, which is not a “live album”, but a special five-track EP of some songs from her critically acclaimed #1 ARIA album Matter Of Time. Recorded at Golden Retriever studio in Marrickville over two days with Meg’s live band prior to the release of her album, the sessions captured unique live versions of the first few singles, as well as offering a sneak peak of new music that was yet to be released.

“The Golden Retriever sessions were so special because I had my sister Hannah and my brother Callum on backing vocals. We recorded everything live with the band and didn’t want to use any samples or tracks, so we had to come up with new arrangements for the songs” says Mac.

Also, apparently one of the song on Golden Retriever was co-written with Meg’s sister: “I wanted to have this big moment where I just belt something vocally, I was at her house about to go into the studio, and I asked her what she would do and she just belted out this crazy line with a really high note. She came with me to the studio and helped me track it later that day.”

We did see Meg Mac live (with her band) in April 2015 when she opened for Clean Bandit: “On her last stop on the US tour with Clean Bandit was Melbourne’s Meg Mac, complete with a full touring band. She’s only met the session band since SXSW 2015 (about three weeks ago), but they were seasoned professional and had no trouble learning to play her songs for the US tour. As we have previously suspected, this was the young singer’s first American tour, and her first time in Minneapolis.”

If you’re in Australia or New Zealand, Meg will be doing a tour, starting April 8, 2023.

Gold Panda
@goldpanda

It’s been a while, but Gold Panda (aka Derwin Dicker) is back… and his album The Work, is out now on City Slang

The title of the album is literally a description of Gold Panda’s long six year of work:  “the work is something that’s used in my therapy a lot, and I hear it a lot in self-care and books about mental health – the work on yourself basically. Which I’ve done with therapy, running, pilates and an osteopath” he laughs. More succinctly though, he suggests that the last few years have primarily been about “self care and trying to put the work in on myself to see where I’m going wrong and why I might be depressed.” Also he adds “when my first daughter was born I found that transition really hard from not being the only person to look after – just taking caring of myself, not having time to do anything and managing my time, so I had to work on that too: there are loads of things the work can be about.”

With the new album, Gold Panda will tour in 2022-2023 to support the record:

Dec 1 – Sheffield, UK – Foundry
Dec 2 – Glasgow, UK – Stereo
Dec 3 – Manchester, UK – Pink Room
Mar 1 – London, UK – Lafayette
Mar 2 – Bristol, UK – Lost Horizons
Mar 3 – Cardiff, UK – Clwb Upstairs
Mar 4 – Falmouth, UK – Cornish Bank

If there is a place to be, it’s at Heart to Gold’s very first headlining show at the 7th Street Entry in Minneapolis on December 6th. This is right before the band heads out on a national tour with Born Without Bones (which starts 12/08 in New Jersey).

The sold-out 7th Street Entry show will feature three local support acts: Gramma, killusonline and Lapdogs.

We’ve mentioned the band five times in various concert listing, but have never seen them live… perhaps that’ll change this December 6th.

Dec 9 Brooklyn, NY, US The Broadway

Dec 10 Hartford, CT, US Webster Underground
