Diablo 1 HD Mod (Belzebub)
As part of the Halloween celebration here at W♥M, I wanted to revisit one of my favorite games: Diablo.
When it was released in 1997, Diablo created a whole new genre, the action role-playing game, with its fast-action hack-and-slash, and randomly generated dungeons. The world has never seen anything quite like this. As I have previously mentioned, I played the PC Gamer demo disc and was hooked. Since then, I have own every Blizzard game, from Warcraft to Starcraft.
I have to confess that I did not love the company during their Diablo III-era, when they required everyone to have an online internet connection to play their games. I caved in since then, but for a time, I refused to support Blizzard for their always-online requirement.
Back to the Diablo game, the one that started it all, I have been playing the game using a mod called Belzebub, which increased the original game to full resolution. Since I can see more of the screen, it feels like cheating, especially if you’re playing the Rogue and can take down enemies before they see you coming.
In addition, they’ve improved user interface, adding a new hero class, new quests, new difficulties, new locations, new bosses, new spells, new skills, new unique items, new item types, and so on…
I think my only complaint about this 2014 mod, is that improvements found in Hellfire (like fast-walking in town or the Monk) is not available in Belzebub, due to the source game codes (Hellfire was not released by Blizzard and contains new codes).
Still, for a free mod, it made Diablo fun and playable on a modern computer. You can get the mod from GOG for free.

Yours,
